  • Ha, so much for a second post on Friday evening. #1 couldn’t get to sleep on Friday evening, so a bit of distraction there, plus he wasn’t too well on Saturday evening and today, so that’s been a bit of a distraction there too.

Apart from that, been a pretty busy weekend. Found some cooked chicken remains in the fridge yesterday and made a quick chicken soup – hate to throw food out. Daughter was also at a party today. Another case of I don’t know where the weekend went. In fact I don’t know wher the month went. Last I can recall was I was going to update my signature… and by the looks of it, never did.

Mortgage payment has been colllected – suspect it will clear on Tuesday, so the usual round of updates as and when it clears.

A few other odds ‘n’ ends to report while I’m here…

We get rewards points with our Barclaycard Goldfish credit card. Checked this evening and we had over 6,000 points so put a request in to convert 5,000 of them to 2 x £10 Argos vouchers – will come in handy.

Mrs Bliss opened an email item from her Spam holder reporting to be from Lloyds TSB which went along the lines of we suspect there has been some fraud on your account – download this attachment and complete so we can follow up. So, Mrs Bliss downloaded the attachment and promptly opened. Erm, well, yes, we did have a Lloyds TSB account, but that was in 2009.

So, I’m waiting for a full anti-virus scan to complete before I turn in for the evening.

Got the replacement network card that I ordered and the wireless connection is now stable again.

Got an email yesterday reporting that a £10-odd payment has just been sent from my QuidCo account – decided to channel that into the ISAs which are ring fenced for the mortgage.

That’s about it. Certainly more posts next week – interest rate decision due on 6th October.

  • I look at our Spam e mail folder every now and again and the sheer number of these e mails is incredible. I suspect it's probably very easy to fall from them if you think you recognise it as your own bank, so Mrs Bliss wont be the first to have done it!

    Hi RT,
Well, we're just in to Q4 2011 and I intend (hope) to be mortgage free by Q4 2012.

In other words, sometime between 1st October 2012 and 31st December 2012. As I've always had the 12/12/12 date in my mind, I'm also hoping it won't be after then so in reality, between 01/10/12 and 12/12/12.

Any date before then would be nothing short of a miracle

I've actually a definitive and firm date I want to aim for, but I'm keeping that to myself - not even discussed that one with Mrs Bliss.

That way when I fail, I avoid public humiliation :o

  • Ok time to come clean. I purchased a brand new laptop last Friday and it arrived this Monday - 3rd October.

Had started at £330, then was reduced to £299 and was about to purchase it at that price, but was further reduced to £279.96 - supplier had around 700 in stock and they were selling roughly one every minute.

Umm'd and Err'd and eventually purchased one when the stock was down to less than 200 left - the next morning they put the price back up to £299, so I was lucky there!

Probably why I've been quiet here on MSE this week. :D

Mortgage cleared on Tuesday, but I never updated stats. Pleased to say that even without taking savings into account, it's under £25k and interest charged during October won't take it above £25k either.

    Full details tonight.

Quick mortgage balance post now that October paymenr has cleared.

On 4th October the mortgage payment cleared. For the mortgage alone it was down to £24,819.22.

But with saving specifically ring fenced towards the mortgage at £1,485, that brings the mortgage balance down to £23,334.22

Updated signature, charts and information in post #1.

Haven't updated this diary in a few days....

I knew some time ago that there would be a mortgage shortfall come 2012. Have been looking at this in some detail and am intending to borrow, ie stooze / slow stooze to make up the short fall.

So, started a thread in the Credit Card Stoozing section here:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3435903

The date in the diary is 7th November. Just picked that date out, as I'll need to have a credit card up and running by 1st December so that I can switch over from the normal cards to the 0% card and thus pay minimal repayments and divert the rest of our funds to savings. Three weeks should be enough time!

Should have a good chance of this working - the only sticking point may be how much credit limit I'm given. Mind you the last 0% CC I applied for was from Virgin Money and I got £5,900 credit limit.

Let's hope Tesco are as generous- every little helps...:rotfl:
