https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts#firstdirectIt's one of our top picks due to its excellent customer service – it's won every bank service poll we've ever done, with 90% of its customers rating it 'great'0 -
Thought I'd open one of the current issue to add to the issue 26 I hold already. At the end of the application it gives the error:
Technical Difficulties We are very sorry - we are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again in a few hours.
I'll try again tomorrow.0 -
Starting to think I was too hasty in closing mine now. I was worried that if I didn't close the older/low rate account, they might notice I had two and close the new/higher rate account.
Could happen at any time and I'd share your concern if the account was just for my savings. The 'may' in their wording is not of any great help. The Ombudsman route is very drawn out and huge hassle. If the T&Cs deny holding more than 1 sole account then their software should not allow the second opening. If it's just for the DDs then go with the reality and adjust as events unfold. This forum should give adequate warning.0 -
Opened the account in Oct 2017 after it was showing at MSE.
Unfortunately had issues in withdrawal and now applying for closure.
If you want access to YOUR money in less than 5-8 working days, then Post Office Online Saver account is NOT for you.0 -

Was getting the same error message yesterday and again today.
Maybe it's not letting me open it due to having the issue 26 already but I would have hoped that if this were the case then it would have given a more meaningful message!0 -

That's not the case. I've got 1x issue 24, 1x issue 25, 3x issue 26 and 1x issue 27I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Just tried again and get the same error message.
I log into my account and follow the link to open the saver. This logs me out but uses my info to fill in most of the application. Once I've ticked that I've read the documentation and clicked to proceed then the next screen gives the error.
I've tried without logging in so entering my name, address etc. but get the same error. Using a different browser doesn't help.
Anyone else getting the same error? Or anyone else opened one successfully in the last few days?0 -
I'm reporting current reality (for me) not what they say in their T&Cs. You can only have one linked account for each PO saver for DDs, unlike Tesco and YB ((Egg), a lifesaver for me with 17 DDs at one point) where you can have multiple DDs per account. At the moment I have a 0.34%, opened 2016, a 1.26%, opened Oct 2017,and a 1.29%, opened today, showing on my opening page all with 1 pound monthly DDs, the first 2 creamed as described. If they're closed (like Tesco's will be) then I'll try something else, likely much less convenient though, like any MSEer would.
I have now opened a second PO saver, using a different linked account. At the end of the process I was given the option to make a "one off payment by direct debit", or a "regular payment by standing order". Has something changed, or am I missing the option so set up monthly payments by DD ?0 -
Opened a Post Office online saver 1.3% over a week ago as it's the current recommended top account on MSE.
Not impressed. Very quick to setup an online account .... however, I haven't received a clear statement giving me an account/sort code.
Can't find a sort code on the web account and the saver account has the first 4 digits of the account blanked out with asterisks.
I got the account number, but only because it came through in the post because of the direct debit setup. Though even that doesn't give the sort-code!.
The direct debit on the nominated account doesn't have it (the sort-code) either which is weird. Have requested a £1 transfer via direct debit several days ago nothing seems to have changed. Though did get an email informing me that I haven't put in any initial funds, so they may close the account. Useless, am thinking of cancelling it, I'm not about to put money into an account that even I don't have the details to!. Judging by the posts on this forum MSE should remove the recommendation, or at least put up a note to say people have been having issues with the service before people find out for themselves!

The page said copy this down, or print this page.
Have you called them to get the details?

Similar problem:-
I had an existing Online Saver Iss 23 that was still only paying 1.01% interest, so I opened a new Iss 28 account paying 1.3% and transferred the balance. It was not obvious how to do this as an existing customer. The process involves being logged out of secure banking but the system seems to somehow remember that you are an existing customer. Cookies perhaps?
Anyhow, that part of the process seemed to work ok.
I now have the same problem of being unable to determine the new account number: The first four digits are blanked out with asterisks.
I can get the old 8-digit account number by requesting and downloading a statement, but that does not work for the new account because a statement is not yet available.
The account numbers shown against the transactions used to transfer the balance are not the same as the 8-digit account numbers that appear on the statements: They have 13-digits and do not include the last digit of the 8-digit account number.
Has anyone managed to figure out how to get your 8-digit account number?0
