It’s not a zero sum game. Those with experience and a good bargaining technique will get to eat much cake and keep a useful amount of it too. The remainer defeatism on this thread is quite dismal to see.

Airbus prepares to move business from Britain over Brexit fears
-Aerospace giant on brink of abandoning British investment
-Tens of thousands of manufacturing roles at risk over Brexit

The European aerospace company Airbus is set to become the first big manufacturer to pull investment from Britain after losing patience with Theresa May's stalled Brexit negotiations.

Airbus, which generates £1.7 billion in tax revenues, is preparing to abandon plans to build aircraft wings at its British plants and move production to China, the US or elsewhere in Europe. It is making a series of investment decisions this summer because of worries that EU safety certifications will not apply from March next year and uncertainty over customs checks.

Shocking dereliction of duty by the government here.

There's tens of thousands of British jobs in Airbus and hundreds of thousands in the supply chain, all being put at risk by the extremist-Brexiteers refusing to listen to the concerns of businesses.

Airbus estimates leaving the single market and customs union will cost it £1 BILLION a year in additional costs if it keeps manufacturing wings in the UK.

All future investment in the UK is now on hold while it considers plans to move manufacturing away from Britain.

A zero sum game is what you just described & Arron Banks will do great. That is why he (in his own words) led people up the garden path.

You might get to look at the cake.

After the worrying (but hardly a shock) Airbus announcement we can presumably expect calls for the UK to start it’s own aircraft industry.

It's not defeatism, I can clearly see how we can rescue this mess. It's just a minority of people in the UK are still trying to drag us over a cliff that we have to overcome.

We can start building these again.

    Indeed.

The Brexiteers cannot act surprised or try to blame the EU as their own economists predicted it.

Possibly, as with Nissan, Toyota, et al, the government will offer up a giant Bribe to get them to stay.

Or perhaps Patrick Minford, the head economist at 'Economists for Brexit' was right in his testimony to Parliament when he said...

"It is perfectly true that if you remove protection of the sort that has been given particularly to the car industry and other manufacturing industries inside the protective wall, you will have a change in the situation facing that industry, and you are going to have to run it down.

Over time, if we left the EU, it seems likely that we would mostly eliminate manufacturing, leaving mainly industries such as design, marketing and hi-tech."

I am curious though if our resident Brexiteers will try to dismiss such analysis from their own side as 'Project Fear', or do they think "mostly eliminating manufacturing" from the UK is now a price worth paying for Brexit?

Airbus preparing to leave the UK if we don't get customs union access:
    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jun/22/airbus-plans-uk-cuts-amid-fears-of-hard-brexit-impact

Because they are one of the thousands of companies that rely on parts moving between sites at a reasonable place (just-in-time). No customs union means either: stockpile enough parts to buffer against the delays (at huge cost for both the parts and the warehousing effort), or move the factories into the CU where the problems don't happen.

It's "just another company, not a big deal" will be the first Brexiteer response, but this one generates £1.7bn in tax every year. That's going to take a lot of replacing (unless they clamp down on tax evasion by the rich, in which case it's peanuts).

I stand to do fairly well out of Brexit in the short-ish time frame at least. I'm not showing any defeatism, just pointing out the reality and how bad an idea it is for almost everyone.

I read this tweet this week:
Me & @Femi_Sorry just participated in a 4-way debate with Leavers on @bbc5live

Debate ended with Lucy from "Leavers of London" demanding "#Brexit at any cost"

When asked to define "any cost" she clarified "30 year economic downturn"

    So, most of our working lives?!!!129300;

[the ‘me’ is Madeleina Kay aka @albawhitewolf]

A link was provided so this can be listened to but I didn’t bother as it’s an hour long. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b6bf04

Presuming that the quote is accurate, and I have no reason to believe that it’s not, that’s quite a statement.
