Brexit, the economy and house prices part 5

No, actually. For the record I consider myself very central. I don't see as much abuse of the phrase "the right". But generally they strike me as meaningless categories.
Edit: To expand on this most people I see getting called "right wing" would happily be labelled as such and indeed would label themselves.
The other day I got called a liberal lefty because I didn't think every muslim in the country should be shot. *shrug*
So consistency isn't one of your virtues. Good to know.0 -

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/oct/24/michael-bloomberg-brexit-is-stupidest-thing-any-country-has-done-besides-trumpMichael Bloomberg, the billionaire media mogul and former mayor of New York, has said Brexit is the “single stupidest thing any country has ever done” apart from the election of Donald Trump as US president.
Bloomberg argued that “it is really hard to understand why a country that was doing so well wanted to ruin it” with the Brexit vote, in a series of outspoken remarks made at a technology conference in Boston a fortnight ago.
At that event, Bloomberg, 75, also warned that some workers at the financial media company that bears his name were asking to leave the UK and US because they think the two countries no longer like immigrants and are no longer welcoming.0 -

So an MP asks for information, academics refuse on the basis that they will not be thought policed... The letter says nothing of intention with the information, but the reaction from the left wing media (incl. BBC, let's not pretend otherwise) and posters on here is assuming that he wants to shut down anti-Brexit debate. How shallow you all are, how pathetic. Equally as bad is the government not standing up for a simple request for information. The left is truly perverse these days.
McCarthyite belief system is alive and well in the UK right.0 -

Hi guys, just to let you know I have stumbled on a scam about Brexit; regarding the so called Brexit Severence Claims. ITS ALL A SCAM.

They aren't state funded though - most of the funding comes from the students who either have to finance it themselves (foreigners) or get a loan from the state. They get some state money but it's a push to say they are state funded.
Plus why only concern for material about Brexit?TrickyTree83 wrote: »The letter is a blessing. Look at the huge over reaction to a simple request for information. All of a sudden it's thought policing and they won't comply. The veil slips... on MSE too.
Why do you *think* he's asking? Do you think he wants to do a crash course on Brexit?
It's not full on thought policing, but it's worrying that someone writing on behalf of the House of Commons (using HoC paper) and not as an MP (using his own paper) even thinks it's valid to be asking universities this stuff. There's a very clear undertone here of "be careful what you're teaching because we're keeping an eye on it", especially since the government has been very critical of anti-Brexit sentiment, going so far as to suggest refusing contracts to pro-Remain companies.
Or do you think you can get a positive spin on this?0 -

How dare he come over here and create jobs. The sooner he relocates elsewhere the better.0 -

Bloomberg is probably another of the ‘movers and shakers’ who feels a bit aggrieved that such a major decision was made by people he usually wouldn’t give a thought about. He feels slighted, but he’ll get over it.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

Regardless of his feelings there are people in this country who would like to see major city companies leave the UK. I have seen posts on social media stating just that. I doubt that it's a huge number but there are certainly quite a few. My guess is that they are generally the sort of people who believe that the NHS will be getting the fabled £350m per week and that there'll be housing aplenty in a few years time. I rather think that they'll be bitterly disappointed if they get their way.0
