Brexit, the economy and house prices part 5

So are you proposing we give that £350m/week directly to the local governments to use? That's a great idea.
In reality, I doubt they'll see any of it
Councils are increasingly responsible for their own budgets. Accountability for their own revenue raising and expenditure. Isn't that the best way forward?
Hasn't it occurred to you that the UK can borrow less. With less debt to service the interest bill falls. Far far bigger picture to be addressed. As per my post #4446. Easy to spend and worry about the bill tomorrow as PFI has shown.0 -
He went as far as saying anything else would destroy the values of the EU. Macron is a fluent English speaker and has not confused his words.
Or questioned by a number of towns in germany now refusing to take any more refugees / immigrants?

Dunning Kruger says hi.
Just because you think you're clever enough doesn't mean it's true. If you look statistically at the way certain groups voted, leavers tended to be those affected negatively by Dunning Kruger the most. Doesn't mean they are wrong of course, but then throw in some racists for good measure and it looks more likely they are wrong.
But maybe the magic beans will grown into something edible. These are the values also being questioned by Poland, Hungary and others in the Visegrad group.

You'll always find selfish people refusing to take refugees, but unless you leave the UN then you're pretty committed to taking some. I'm sure there are people who would be happy about that too, but that would be pretty irresponsible bearing in mind how long we've gone without war and how bad things were before.0 -

Says someone who could be the perfect example of Dunning Kruger in action.
And are you aware of the difference between a refugee and an economic migrant?0 -

"Europe jittery as crunch vote looms for German coalition"I'm hearing from acquaintances in Germany that the SPD will reject the coalition by about 60/40. If so, Schulz and Merkel will probably be toast.tracey3596 wrote: »I have heard very similar but I refrained from saying so because certain posters will undoubtedly decry it as anecdotal.
Until after the weekend if proven correct of course.

Fair enough but the SPD have attached strings that more has to be done on pensions, apprenticeships, education and migrant assimilation. It ain't over by a long way.0

Interesting take on where we are whether you're a remainer or brexiteer.
So do we jump over the cliff or pretend it never happened?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Those lefties are at it again........Ms Fairbairn will set a 70-day deadline for a written agreement on a transitional trade deal between the UK and EU.
"Decisions must be taken fast, or firms will have no choice but to trigger their plan Bs," she will warn.
"More jobs and investment will leave our shores and future generations will pay the price."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-42765661In a speech on Monday, Carolyn Fairbairn, the CBI director general, will also call for Theresa May’s government to show greater urgency in Brexit talks to give clarity to companies that will otherwise need to trigger alternative plans, including moving jobs and investment offshore.

She will say that a no-deal scenario would be an act of “great economic self-harm”, by imposing billions of pounds of costs on UK goods sold to the EU and vice versa, and existing trade deals between the EU and Canada and the EU Norway would not be the best solution for Britain.

I understand, but what is the point in differentiating? Leavers hate them both equally. Unless you're playing the passive agressive game of pretending you'd allow refugee's but actually there is no way anyone could qualify as one.
Can you explain the difference between escaping a country because you're going to die due to being shot at or you're going to die because you can't get enough money to eat.
You are very strong with Dunning Kruger. So do we jump over the cliff or pretend it never happened?
The simplest solution is to treat everyone how they would wish immigrants (economic, political, etc). Once we expel 52% of the voters in the referendum and leave them on an island somewhere, we won't have them dragging us down anymore. It turns out that it's acceptable to treat people like this, 52% of the UK agree.0 -

Personally, I have absolutely no problem with immigrants entering the country legally or genuine refugees. I do have a problem with economic migrants who you think haven't got enough money to eat but in reality manage to find thousands of pounds to pay to people smugglers. They've more chance of dying in leaky boats than of hunger in their own countries.0
