Does that include glaswegians and the Cornish?

I'm sure in due course that the SNP will introduce legislation. Though what will "Scots" be?

If they come to live and use public services in England then yes they should have to learn to speak English. As tourists in England, no.

It's not a ludicrous statement. We chose to introduce free movement straight away instead of delaying it. Thatcher...our democratically elected PM in 1988 made a speech extolling the virtues of free movement of people, capital and goods. By the way we have always had direct control over immigration from non EU countries anyway which amounts to roughly half of our immigration.

Under FOM you do not need a job to come to, when migrating here.

It's a crock, and I call it out as such.

I don't wander into an IBM office; take a seat; and hope on the off chance they will find me work tomorrow.

No. The world of work has always recruited labour on demand. It encourages providers to match their skills to those required.

Right now, we could have 5,000% more turnip pickers than we need arrive, and nobody could say anything.

What bothers me is they do not bother to learn English, they cannot communicate with anyone that does not speak the language

    That's a bit of a generalisation isn't it?

Is it really a 100million cost?

completely agree though, if they cant be bothered to learn English, they should not be in this country.

Translation costs are not centrally gathered, so we shall never really know.

If you need specialist Polish translation, say for a child with special needs, expect to pay £48-£60 per hour.

If you want to offer multi-lingual phone support for all public services, like enquiries on tax codes; housing issues; or a load of other issues, expect every call to take at least one third longer. This lowers productivity, and if you haven't noticed, we are falling behind our competitors.

But...maybe technology could reverse all this. Right now, Google and the like are working on quality translation on demand.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the UK is given the freedom to ‘discriminate’ against new EU migrants post 2019.
The right of anyone to access in work benefits without prior contribution has been a massive draw for all and sundry IMO.

More of a generalisation than your assertion that the British public don't know enough to be allowed to vote?
    Pot, meet kettle.

No, not at all. Why jump to his defence for a comment like that?

Also you're letting the veil slip again, we had this debate before this character signed up.

But fom doesn't require us to house them, find them a job or pay benefits when they arrive, and allows us to remove them if they aren't self sustaining after 3 months.

You must be living in a different part of the country to me then Enterprise, around here the E. Europeans speak pretty passable English.
They tend not to where I live in the East Midlands although generally they are far better with language skills than us British, who are generally very lazy with languages. *
Of course some speak good or passable English but whether or not they do, IME many stick to their own families and/or communities as much as possible, both in and outside work and for a variety of reasons.
That would appear to be borne out by this report from The Economist earlier in the year.

That is not intended as being derogatory, rather as factual.
I personally am fluent in more than one language but not any from Eastern Europe.

What precisely are you pointing out?

    I think you've misread something.
