Depends on how you define poverty. To me poverty is not the same as poor. Poverty is when you have no home and no access to food and are living on the streets. Poor is just the lower x%tile of income and/or wealth. Where x is whatever the hell you want it to be. Poor doesnt mean anything to me.0

You didn't provide a link, but I found this:
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/dec/25/scotland-universal-basic-income-councils-pilot-scheme
Assuming that is the story you are referring to, I'm speculating that it is a trial limited to a small number of people (four council areas involved, grant of £250k, big money.... ).
I got all excited there, about jacking my job in and living off the state.0 -

Obviously not as I’ve said I don’t think relative poverty or JRFs are of much use. I don’t think it’s reasonable for families to be in bed and breakfast for long periods or in sub standard accomadation. I spend my childhood in a cold house without heating, hot water, bathroom and an indoor toilet I don’t think people should experience that now.
Sure but are people really experiencing that now? Hardly anyone. We live in a socialist state where the poorest receive ample amounts of benefits to be able to afford heating and food. Last time i checked all houses have indoor toilets in modern day britain.0 -

The point is you’d have enough to avoid poverty (yes) and then you’d be left to get on with your life. There’d be no chasing after people who work while on the dole, since we’d all be receiving this, rich or poor. Or even poverty stricken, without even an iPhone to your name.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

It almost sounds like you think an indoor toilet is a luxury item. What free-market, cost effective alternative would you prefer?
A large communal bucket perhaps?
After all, with a bucket you can !!!! in it, wash in it and drink out of it.
Think of the money we could save eh. And people like you can still say how wonderful it is that ‘our’ poor have got buckets which is a lot better than the Somalian ‘poor’ who have a hole in the ground.
You are a disgrace.0 -
