I'm spraying highly toxic insecticide around all the windows and doors and they're STILL making it in (but not looking very lively so far thankfully). It seems like they've had a particularly successful year this year which isn't great news.4

Sorry about the spiders.
Just snook back in and caught up on your doings since Feb. Glad you were able to move and port your mortgage. Good that you are settling in to your new home and weren't homeless for too long.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

It's been an expensive month, so not much left at the end of it for an OP, but there's a little, and it will be good to make a start. The I'll have to raid savings to pay CC bills for the sofa, blinds and greenhouse (which is due to be delivered on Oct 10th - I'm still waiting for a date for the sofa and the new freezer seal).
Car has a rattle - mechanic has looked at it, and said as it's still under warranty (which I'd totally forgotten about as I've never had a car this new) it needs to go back to a main dealer. So that's something else to organise. Luckily I can borrow my mum's car while I sort it out as she's just had a knee op and is off driving.
Work is unbelievably busy and showing no signs of slowing up. I've been out at a conference all week and there's a serious backlog. But I'm also shattered so not sure when it will get done!4 -
Sorry to hear about the spiders - have you tried the conkers approach? My mum swears by it... They are also probably attracted by all the house plants as well...Good news re the car warranty at least!
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Toxic spray seems to finally have dealt with the spider problem. That and cleaning the outside of the house, clearing the gutters, and doing a lot of cleaning inside. The workshop has been despidered and organised too. The garden has had a lot of shrubs dug out, and the greenhouse has been delivered and installed. Lots more blinds have been acquired and installed, three curtain poles have been put up, and four sets of curtains. One more curtain pole is needed, and I'm also waiting for the lady who made a couple of blinds to bring over the fittings as she forgot them when she dropped the blinds and curtains off (she has a reputation for being scatty).
Furniture is being moved around, pictures and shelves have been put up, the garage has been organised, logs have been delivered, the chimney sweep is booked, and lots more houseplants have been repotted - peace lilies and spider plants are particularly good at reducing condensation.
Electrician still hasn't made it over, but I may have located someone else to come over and at least do the electrics for the heating (and possibly swap out the thermostats for a smart system as well as putting timers on the electric towel rails and possibly connecting them to the heating as well).
I'm away for work this week, home for a week, then away again, so I won't be doing anything much more unless I get a few pictures up tomorrow. Packing needs to be done before anything else, otherwise I'll be panicking on Monday morning!6 -
Actually managed to make an OP this month. I’ll have to shift money from savings to pay the CC bill for the greenhouse, but I’m now paying for big house stuff from savings (smaller items are still cash flowed), and then splitting any end-of-month/payday surplus above a given threshold between savings and mortgage - that way, even though I’m spending, I can also see I’m paying down the mortgage and doing some saving. If that makes sense.Another curtain pole is due to arrive today; bed, mattress, and bedding have been ordered for the spare room in the hope they’ll arrive ready for my pre-Christmas family visits; chimney has been swept and stove rope caulk replaced. Sofa arrived, but is badly damaged so I’m waiting for a phone call shortly to discuss collection and replacement. But it fits, and the colour is perfect, so at least it was the right decision.
Storm Ciaran is no longer forecast here, so I need to get out and fill the garden waste bins before they go out tonight. And maybe out some garden furniture under cover to dry out before it is put away for the winter. And do some work 😎5 -

Although given the mouse situation, maybe 'all of the kittens' is what's needed...2
