I too love the thought of light over darkness as a concept.  Though I hate the up light except when I'm working at a desk (or kitchen table) and as soon as it's off the clock time, I turn on the fairy lights and side lamps which is calmer and soothes the soul.  I have to admit to having seasonal fairy lights - atm I have a string of pumpkin 🎃 lights up currently and will switch them out for a string of stars at the beginning of November.  I rather do like those as they have a timer on them and once I turn them on, they take care of themselves!

pumpkin lights!  I feel a shopping experience coming on :)

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

@Watty1 - I bought the pumpkin ones in the after-the-event sales last year & the stars in the after xmas sales in jan - you can get them for a very affordable 1 or 2 pounds - JL brand at Waitflower!

One of the things I did here when the sitting room was being renovated was to install a 5amp circuit for the table lamps which is switched from by the door. The overhead light is rarely turned on (and it has a wooden shade, so hardly any light gets out anyway!). My mum also prefers to use her table lamps, but was getting fed up going round turning them all on and worried about tripping. So on the advice of my electricians I found some remote-control plug-in sockets - she has a remote by her chair, and another one stuck on the wall by the door with a magnet. Each lamp can be turned on/off separately, but she no longer needs to go round the room to do it.

Dog and cats are campaigning for early supper, but with the clock change coming up I think that's a bad idea!

I did go out earlier and weed a couple of beds in the veg plot, with the intention of sowing peas and beans tomorrow (and putting supports in). I should probably have a look and see what else I can sow, but also remember to leave space for onions/garlic/shallots which should arrive next week.

More negative electricity pricing tonight, so the TD will go on, as will electric heating, hot water, a drum clean for the WM, either a full DW or a cleaning cycle (haven't decided), and some cannellini beans in the SC. If the DW is on a cleaning cycle I might also do soup in the other SC. And obviously I'll discharge the battery before I go to bed!

Baking and soup needs putting away, DW needs emptying, kitchen needs a tidy, bedroom shelf needs polishing and putting up, one picture needs to go up in the bedroom, one in the ensuite, and two in the bedroom I'm currently using.

As well as gardening tomorrow I'll need to clear the contents of the airing cupboard off the big spare room bed as i'm hoping that the carpet fitters will move the bed, blanket chest, and big CoD back for me after they put the carpet down so that I don't have to drag anything over the new carpet! I'll run the robot vacuum over it for a few days to remove loose fibres and before I put everything else back in.

I daren't move, as I'm being watched, and movement may be interpreted as feeding time, so I'm going to try to relax and read.

I like the term 'original husband' :) It sounds as if he was returned as faulty, or upgraded to a new model...

I always think there are negative implications to 'ex' so I try not to use it especially as the person concerned was a good friend for years before he was anything else, and indeed has gone full circle back to being a kind and supportive friend in the last few months.

Yep, there's always an assumption that exes are horrible. Which clearly isn't always the case. It's nice that you can be friends again at a time when you really need support.

Frost here last night (only on the shed roof, not the grass) so I need to get on with veg plot clearing (squash) and sowing.

Neighbour is coming today to look at the paving around the summerhouse and putting up some posts and trellis. So I need to get up and dress and take the dog out before then.

Cats and dog obviously paid no attention to the clock change, so they’ve been out, been fed, and I’m back in bed with my coffee!

outside is sunny, but cold and windy.

Lots of overnight electricity used, so towels are dry, WM is clean, and DW contents are clean. Water is hot, house is warm - although probably not warm enough to avoid using the oil heating today. Annoyingly I’d forgotten to set the battery back to charge from the grid (turned it off after yesterday’s negative/free sessions) so it missed the most lucrative half hour - but as I woke up at ‘normal’ time I turned it on before it was too late so it’s still charged at negative pricing.

Upstairs heating has just kicked in - I need to check that the electric radiator is on full (I had the airer on the socket until last night), and if it is, consider replacing it with a larger one.

Neighbour has been and reckons he can do the work soon as someone has asked to delay another job. He's going to take up the existing paving and then lay out the sandstone we've got to work out how it can go down. I'll probably use the concrete paving in the veg plot at some point. Turf will go in a pile to rot down (we've got lots more to come up, so I'll make a specific pile), soil will go in builders bags to mix in with compost.

Peas sown with hazel set up for them to climb up (suspect the twigs may be too short and I may need to add in some taller ones later), and twigs scattered over to stop the cats excavating. One bed of broad beans sown (last of the Luz d'Otono, but have some Sutton's Dwarf to sow in a week or two) and supports put in (will need layers adding, but at least I've started) and covered with twigs, and a small bed topped up with compost, scattered with winter spinach seeds, and some plastic mesh pegged over it to deter the cats.

One and a bit rows scythed before the rain started.

Clematis montana rubens tetrarose ordered to grow over (unused) front gate, along with some daffodils and muscari that I'll plant in the bed by the gate. And some alliums that I'll plant somewhere... It's been nice to spend some time in the garden. I'm hoping that Wednesday morning will be decent weather as scything will be easier without the dog attempting to join in.

I'm planning on spending most of the rest of the afternoon reading on the sofa, interspersed with tidying up the kitchen and putting stuff away ready for going back to work tomorrow.

Cats hate me. They asked for second breakfast and I gave them worm pills and flea drops...

Dog walk done in the cold and damp (he's not tired, he's bored). Stuff cleared out of the way for carpet fitters.

Boss spoken to about upcoming restructure, and a billion emails deleted/reviewed. I now need a break. And a lottery ticket.
