Castrate. You can do chemical castration, but my vet's not keen on shoving them full of nasty chemicals. And as he said, you can't get testicular cancer if you don't have testicles. I'm sure he won't miss them once the shock has worn off 😈

I would suggest that you get the post op 'babygro' for Stinky. Keeps the operated area clean and prevents any nibbling or licking.

Waterbutts full here too @kazwookie. Not the IBCs though!

@Staffordia - vet has recommended an inflatable collar as some dogs can still get their heads through the gaps. We’ll try it and if that doesn’t work they suggest adding a short cone. The problem with all these things is that they’re not foolproof - and they all have issues. The hard bit is going to be keeping him quiet for 10 days while he heals rather than running around like a lunatic.

WattyDog had a reaction to the painkillers and a "come down" which meant he howled for 48 hours.  I was on holiday so PPH had to deal with that.    However WattyDog was surprisingly sensible and did not run about like a lunatic for 5 days after which time WattyDog had healed sufficiently according to himself and although we did lead walks for a couple of days but then realised as he was hurtling around he was "better".  He healed just fine (the vet can offer a sedative if you really cannot keep him quiet, I've had to request this for horses in the past and they use a similar one for dogs).

Thanks @Watty1 - they’ve said walks on lead are fine, but he’s more of a PITA on the lead than off! We’ll certainly need to avoid meeting other dogs until he’s healed. I think I’ll have to let him into my office while I’m working so I can keep an eye on him. He’s going to be very bored. Hopefully no reactions and not too much pain - my mum has offered to come and hold his paw after I collect him while I’m working on the day it’s done. I’m sure she wasn’t this concerned about her own dogs when they were spayed!

Given that he spent most of yesterday while I was working charging in and out of the paddling pool and playing chase with the cat (she chases him, not the other way round), and being totally oblivious to the fact that hot weather and all-black dogs don’t mix, I’m a little apprehensive! He also prefers to drink from watering cans than bowls…

WattyDog drinks from watering cans too :)   It does make me laugh.

The green festering water collections are the best apparently, for the cats and the dogs.

Fatso likes the dog bowl water, after the dog has slobbered in it. Noisy likes the water fountain thank you very much - although she also drinks out of plant saucers if she's outside.
