That really does sound like a productive day!

You’ve also reminded me that I never did go back to the restorer about getting some work done on the old bureau I have here. I don’t think I’ll be able to afford a full restoration, but I’d like to find out how much it would be to repair the actually broken bits, and strip and re-varnish it.

  • Wow, so productive over here!!
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Definitely worth getting a time switch fitted.

I had a lovely bath, and got out when my book got wet. However, the bath is filthy. I should have had a shower first!

When came back downstairs I took the clamp off the CoD and put it back together, adding the drawers. I'm hoping my mum has some old wallpaper I can use to line the drawers. And I need to find the beeswax polish - not just for the outside, but the drawer runners as well so there's not so much dust next time I take them out.

I've fed the starving moggies, eaten leftovers, and found that there was one glass of wine left in the bottle.

Managed to get more gardening done before work - and importantly, fill the garden waste bins. Am possibly even more creaky today than yesterday, but cleaner (had a shower this morning after doing some pilates), so while the weeding was done, the CoD carcass that needs bringing in is still in the garage!

Agile prices high today, so working US hours is paying dividends. Even high tomorrow, but thankfully the battery will charge overnight. I'm planning on doing some outside stuff in the morning to make the most of the daylight and fresh air, and then working late so I can ignore the outrageous prices and hopefully catch up on paperwork.

Scything helped free up my back thankfully (there's still a LOT to be done). I've got all the furniture into the house (bar the bits that need significantly more work), but am still faffing about with what goes where in the sitting room. I've made more progress on the spare bedroom, but have realised that the blanket chest I want to put in there needs restoring first as it's very rough and splintery on the bottom (as well as stained and dented on the rest of it). It's currently in the utility room with cat beds on it, but I've emptied it (it had spare cushions in it that I use on the garden benches and chairs) and will put it in the garage in the morning.

I need to do a major clearout of the kitchen as Thursday will see a puppy move in with us. I was originally told it was 14 weeks, but today someone mentioned 16 weeks which I suspect is more likely. So it's already a teenager. Working lab from people I know well. The mother is very well behaved and has a great temperament - but that's probably more down to the family than anything else. Being older it's already pretty bouncy and energetic, so is going to be a bit of a challenge to get it from living in a 'working' outdoor environment to being and indoor pet! The cats may well move out.

Labs have such lovely temperaments!  Looking forward to hearing the exploits of the new puppy and his feline companions 🤣

I'm hoping he doesn't have any exploits! But I expect to be disappointed.

I need to puppy-proof the kitchen, which will be a challenge. I need to rejig the utility room at some point so that everyone can share it, but for now the puppy will be kept out of the cats' space. Not that they will appreciate the effort made.
  • You are not going to have an exploit free life with a labrador - that much is certain! Gorgeous dogs though - firmly on my list of dog breeds I'd be happy to have one day!
