Looking at the weather (and electricity prices) I clearly should have topped up the battery last night. But we did have some sun forecast today so I'd expected it to top up more than it did. I'm hoping the price-based charging works tonight - I need to check whether it works in the 10-10.30pm slot. If not, I'll have to set up a timed slot.

I have chicken wings to poach for the cats tonight (again, should have been done yesterday), which I will then mix with mince, offal, eggs, and carrots for home-made cat food.

Bother. Budget charge (where you set a limit) isn't working. I'm going to try turning that off and seeing whether it charges based on working out the cheapest periods for itself (which is what it should do). If it doesn't, tomorrow will be an expensive day and i'll need to raise a support ticket. Or manually input a theoretical tariff and mark the slots I want it to use as 1p slots each day once the agile pricing is released (which is not the way I want to do it!).

That sounds like a right faff and not at all ideal! Hope you can get the automatic thing to work

No idea why it didn’t work - I need to do more experimentation before I raise a ticket with the help desk - but not until either the weather improves or the prices do! I set it back to dual fuel and added 1p slots for the cheapest eight 30min slots which seemed to work. Although I may need more than that today! I’ve had a few days running almost completely from solar despite it being October.

Ooh, that's good! We'd love to have solar one day, just don't have the funds right now. Got an excellent South facing roof though so hopefully one day!

It might be worth getting some quotes so you can see the different designs people come up with. I want to ask my installer about adding east and west facing (and a small bit of additional south) on the house to my 14 south-facing panels on the garage. I think it would make sense to do that and export excess rather than get another battery. At least, not until battery prices drop further as I know that in a power cut a full battery would last more than a day on current use.

No point getting a quote at this stage. I've done the online estimate with Octopus and it comes out just under £10k. We don't have that right now, and don't want to take out a loan for solar panels, even if it pays for itself in a few years. Might consider it at some point, but for now will just watch how other people manage theirs with interest 😊

Pricing is all much the same, although without batteries it would probably be half that. I got an estimate from Octopus and quotes from 3 other people. I went with the person who quoted for what I wanted and actually listened to me!
