Sorry to hear you're still waiting for the insurers. That's the trouble with most of them, they promise the world and then fall short when they are actually asked to do something:(. I hope they send someone out soon. Good idea for DH to chase them up:T0 -
The damage assessors are often outsourced sub contractors, directed from an (also outsourced) call centre. Its worth chasing them.My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

I can totally understand your thinking on this, HH, but I honestly think you are underestimated you and DH's ability to control your spending and that you assume a necessary dip into the EF pot is the beginning of a slippery slope. It's an Emergency Fund and what constitutes emergencies if the current events don't?
Just meant o say, and forgot:o that the freezer contents are going to be reimbursed by the insurers aren't they? Maybe a temporary dip into the savings could be used to restock the freezer when it comes. You can then make sure the insurance money goes straight back in to your savings pot.
I agree with Noella, and I think we all have more faith in you than you do in yourself for NOT embarking on a slippery slope of unnecessary spending.
Gosh, OH was lucky not to have the 'bashing' he'd have got from many of your subscribers !!!
Lovely clean fridge, not how or when you planned, but it is a fact, and can be taken pleasure in.
Insurance claims always seem to involve some chasing. I think they hope that if they don't get on with things immediately some people's claims will just go away, and I could see that happening, if the stress of chasing becomes not worth the hassle. Hope OH has a successful phone call.
It's chucking it down here, and considering how close we are to the longest day, it's as dark as winter !! We have our little kitchen cloths draped all over the cold radiators as DH is already doing the washing-up and taking things up that I leave on the stairs. Also, if they went on the upstairs airer, someone would still have to bring them down again once dry !!
Summer is definitely not 'icumen in' ! (the manuscript for this song was apparently found at Reading Abbey, so on my doorstep).0 -
Thank you all
.
Well work was fine as it stayed dry luckily (although the weather was cold and gloomy) and unlike DH the children do what I tell them :rotfl:.
After work we went to Mr T and spent £85.90 on food . We got £6 off using a voucher my sister sent so it cost us £79.90. That's a lot of money considering we bought no frozen food, but almost £20 was for a birthday cake and party nibbles for DS1, who has invited a few friends around on his birthday.
We didn't do a proper food shop last week so we needed a lot of things, including dishwasher tabs, toilet roll, kitchen roll, fruit, bread, sauces, eggs, milk, potatoes, oats, cheese, margarine, dinner for tonight, foil, sandwich bags, mouthwash, Germolene, plasters, etc. So we spent about £65 once you knock off the birthday food.
So we have DS3 and his stuff home, we have a clean fridge and we have food (apart from frozen). We're gradually making progress :T.
My other panic now is about DS1's birthday. We ordered him four presents and only two of them have arrived, despite paying for express delivery . I'm worried that he only has two presents to open tomorrow. The company is going to refund us the express delivery money for one present and it will arrive on Thursday, but it will still be too late for DS1's birthday
. I've suggested to DH that we get DS1 some chocolate and socks so he has more to open, but we'll have to get them first thing in the morning and quickly wrap them up.
The flooring people rang this afternoon too and are coming in the morning to look assess the flood damage. I wish they hadn't picked DS1's birthday to come but it can't be helped.
I just want to have a normal week, where I just go to work and do housework and de-cluttering. I'm fed up with floods, colds, long journeys, non arriving presents, and non working appliances. Sorry I'm moaning again
.

I'm sure ds will understand about his presents coming later in the week - it is something to look forward to! I wouldn't worry about choc and socks but I know how you feel.
My two kids 8 and 6 normally get a present from OH when he has been on holiday as football kits are cheaper in Europe. He didn't bring one back this time - couldn't find one for a good price - and they just accepted this. I thought they'd be upset. Anyway what I mean is he will probab;y be fine with what he has and something to look forward to as well.15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

. I just want DS1 to have a nice birthday and all we have to give him are two graphic novels
. A third graphic novel and tee shirt are not going to arrive until the day after and it doesn't seem much to open on his birthday. Other relatives tend to forget or give him money, so the only presents he gets will be from us.

Thank you Beanie

The thing is that even if DS1 didn't mind, I would mind. I would feel terrible if he only had two small presents on his actual birthday. So we're going to get some chocolates and socks for him in the morning. We always try and make birthdays special for the five of us, because we don't get many treats the rest of the year. We've spent about £50 on DS1's presents. We'll spend another £10 on chocs and socks, which is a small price to pay to stop me feeling bad on his birthday.

I tried to have my shower and DS3 was in there . I always have a shower and then cook dinner so I have time to relax before bedtime. It's my evening routine and I'm very attached to it. DS3 is always an hour in the shower  so that scuppered my evening routine. If only we had two showers, sigh. I'm going to have to remind DS3 not to go in the shower at the exact time that I normally do .
So instead I decided to clean out the furry moron before dinner and have a shower in the morning instead. At least I won't have to muck out the furry mammal tomorrow.
I've done all the tiring stuff today, so tomorrow I just need to get DS1 chocs and socks, wrap them up, shower and then go to work. After that I intend to do absolutely NOTHING.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
