We did some packing with DS3. We'll finish packing and give his room a quick clean in the morning. DS3 and DH wanted to throw away the remains of his small box of laundry powder, but this horrified my frugality so I insisted we pour it into three tiny plastic boxes to bring home :rotfl:.
We're at the hotel now, and we're going to go out and eat with our restaurant vouchers soon. DS3 has food he wanted to finish up so he's not coming to the restaurant with us, which will save money :money:. On the journey we ate sandwiches and fruit for lunch that I made at home this morning and just bought two coffees each :money:.
Already I feel much more relaxed than last time we came so the hotel idea was a really good one.
I hope everyone has a good weekend.
So glad to hear from your tone as well as the words, that so far it is all going much better. Enjoy your meal.
Oh and I couldn't leave the washing powder behind either. I'm the one who, whilst clearing stuff from my parents' house, ate meals from whatever they had in the freezer till it was all gone. Took home every scrap of cleaning/washing materials and gradually used it up. Even took & used their toothpaste - well what's the point of wasting it all ? I think they would have been delighted !0 -
Thank you Elizabeth

My friend laughed at me when she was here and I rinsed the soap powder box with a bit of water and poured it in my washer to get every bit out....but my mum did it and I’ve always done it.
Your journey sounds much more civilised than last time :beer:January spends - £587.580 -

Good for you, HH:T. I'm the same, as was my Mum. She didn't need to save money (unlike me:o ) but was always very frugal with things and never wasted anything. I suppose she had that lesson drummed into her during the deprived wartime years when everything was precious and it stayed with her for life.
I always 'stick' the tiniest sliver of left over soap to the new block before I use it. I also add a little water to the fabric conditioner bottle and shake it about to get full value even when I think I've used every drop. There's always some still adhering to the inside of the bottle. I do the same with bottles of sauce, shampoo, just about everything really. Always have, always will I expect:j0 -
Are you OK, HH? You've been very quiet since your last post from the hotel.
I expect you had a very wet lunchtime if the photos on the weather forecast were anything to go by. Plymouth, which I don't suppose is a million miles from you, looked very, very wet:eek:
Must be lovely to have DS home again:beer:0 -
I'm fine thank you
. Just exhausted (again
).
We didn't sleep very well in the hotel as the pillow was like a brick, the duvet was really thick and the room was was very hot . So another time I'm going to take my own pillow and maybe take the duvet out of the cover and sleep under the cover. Apart from that the hotel was fine and in a very convenient location so we had very little driving to do once we were there.
We managed to get DS3's belongings packed up, and his room and bathroom cleaned fairly quickly. We had a good journey and were home by 7.30pm. I went to bed early and had a good night's sleep last night, so I volunteered this morning and did my lunchtime job. It was dry all morning but then poured with torrential rain at lunchtime, so we had indoor play  which is always more tiring.
I was fine while I was at school but I crashed and burned when I got home. Now the house is a complete tip, there's stuff everywhere, the laundry baskets are completely full and we still don't have a freezer, but I'm too tired to do anything about it.
We also spent a lot of money on food and drinks on the journeys and just generally while we were away, but it's always hard to control spending when away from home (especially when I'm with DH and DS3 who never stop eating ).
Never mind, at least we don't have to go away again so when I eventually get my energy back and a weekend, I can get on top of things again. And it's lovely to have DS3 home again.

Glad your cold is clearing up, the tiredness could be a side effect from it.
It's a shame you didn't get a good rest in the hotel room, I expect the pillows etc are bought for durability rather than comfort.
At least the journey is done now and DS3 is safely installed back home -another thing crossed off your list.
Hope you get some rest tonightI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Thank you SA
. It was a Travel Lodge so fairly basic. I'm still glad we went for the hotel option though as it meant much less driving.

What a shame you didn't get a good night's sleep at the hotel, HH. I'm sure you must have been ready just to crash out after the stress, the long drive and the packing and cleaning at DS's flat. I suppose because you and DH are frugal at home:T and are happy to live in what many people would consider to be cooler temperatures ( such as no heating on even in winter:eek:) that hotel bedrooms geared to what most users would expect are sure to be too warm for you. I expect most people would find them really cosy.
Pillows are funny things aren't they? DH needs 2 comfy hi-loft ones whereas I sometimes remove even the one thin, flat one that I use before I settle down for the night. Good idea to take your own next time:T
I hope you'll be feeling better by now and ready for the day ahead xx0 -
I understand your feelings on stuffy, hot rooms. I also dislike them. Posh hotels now have pillow menus, proof if proof were needed that a 'good' pillow makes all the difference. I like the idea of taking your own.
Have a good dayIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them
