  • Christmas, my birthday and mother’s day all fall within 3 months so I like to drip feed using my presents. Maybe ds would like to know he has more to look forward to

Thank you INOD :). It's the same with me, plus it's DH's birthday and father's day in the same month.

Hi HHD :) Just catching up. Sorry to read you're feeling so stressed out with everything lately.

I think 2 or 3 presents, birthday cake, nibbles and friends round to celebrate sounds a great day. TBH we don't do much more for ours now they're getting older.

I'm smiling at the hour shower. DD is home and don't we know it. :o Not a cup to be found unless you look on her windowsill, and she ran a bath last night then had a shower afterwards to wash her hair  And if that's not bad enough she didn't tell us what she was doing so we were all sat here with our legs crossed - we're a one bathroom house as well.

Hope DS enjoys his day and you do as well. xx

Thank you TF2 :). It's all happening at once that's the trouble.

I'm chuckling at you all sitting with crossed legs whilst DD is hogging the bathroom :rotfl:. We've only got one bathroom but luckily the toilet is separate and that's been a life saver with five of us in the house! We keep running out of dinner plates now DS3 is home .

I feel much more relaxed now, finally :).

The man from the insurance company came at 9.30am to inspect the flooring and measure to replace it. He was here for about an hour and a half measuring the floor and talking to us about our options. Five minutes after the floor man arrived our new freezer was delivered :T.

We're very pleased with the new freezer :). We did consider getting a smaller one to save money, but decided against it because a big freezer is useful for bulk buying discounted food, Christmas, etc. So having bitten the bullet and spent £350 on the freezer, we are very pleased with it. Our old freezer was grey as that was the only colour it came in, the handle had broken and DS2 had scratched noughts and crosses into the door when he was ill. The new one is exactly the same but white, which blends in better with our white walls, and is new, shiny and pristine :D. It's an upright seven drawer model. I can't wait to fill it with frozen food now :D. Our old freezer was fifteen years old so it makes you wonder how long it would have lasted without the flood.

The flooring man has said that the insurance will pay for new laminate flooring in the kitchen and breakfast room, as well as new vinyl for the toilet floor. We could choose the colour and style we wanted, so chose a speckled grey for the kitchen floor as the black we currently have is a bit dark. Once we get our quote for the painting the insurance will pay for the kitchen to be redecorated too :T so we need to chase our builder for the quote.

I'm very pleased we have insurance because the kitchen is going to look as good as new once the new flooring and decorating is finished :).

I'm feeling much more relaxed now that we have a freezer, we know what's happening with the kitchen floor and DS1's birthday is sorted :).

I'm in the office because the living room is full of DS1's friends. We'll have a takeaway tonight as it's a celebration but tomorrow after work I'm looking forward to buying some frozen food for the freezer :).

Work was good too because it was dry and bright. All I need now is a weekend to sort out DS3's uni belongings with him and put the things he won't need until the autumn in the void. Then I'll feel like the house (and my life) is under control again.

I'm still a bit worried about the budget for June, but I'll do some sums tomorrow. Today I just want to relax and enjoy DS1's 26th birthday.

Happy birthday to ds - hope you all enjoy the day:beer:
Your kitchen is going to be lovely and should cheer you up no end. I think one of the best feelings ever is a full freezer - I got immense satisfaction batch cooking a couple of weeks ago. It’s just the feeling of security that goes with it.
Enjoy your rest - you deserve it :T
    January spends - £587.58
  • Thank you Milann :). I'm really pleased just to HAVE a freezer at the moment, even an empty one, but it will be lovely to fill it up with food :D. It looks so new and shiny. It was horrible not having a freezer for nine day.

You do sound more relaxed HHD :) Sounds like you're going to have a lovely kitchen when all the work is done. I love it when the DC's bring friends round, it makes the house feel alive. Enjoy your takeaway. xx
  • Thank you TF2 :). I like having the DC's friends here too. It's so nice to be getting back to normal.
