I think my DS was pretty unusual as his room was immaculate when he lived at home. I even caught him once polishing his curtain pole :rotfl:

Just delurking to say that when my mum died when I was 36 (23 years ago) I hated Mothers Day with a vengeance. But after a few years I decided to buy a bunch of flowers for my mum on Mothers Day but keep them for myself and I now admire them and think of them as my mum's flowers every year. With 3 kids of my own it can get a bit overcrowded with flowers here but my mum's ones are always special to me. It helped me get over the feeling of "not everyone still has a mother" and when I buy them I just think "these are for you mum"

Lovely idea there from Paspatur. The first Mother's Day without your mum is just awful. My mum passed away a week after my 40th birthday. I still get emails "treat your mum this Mother's Day" etc, always makes me feel sad - if only I could :(

I'm glad everyone found my story about DS and his curtain pole amusing. He's still obsessed with cleaning now he's got his own place and family. Don't ask about DD though, she's not the same by a long shot.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, it will be hard, but you've got your lovely boys to take your mind off things xx

We left at 9.15am yesterday which I was pleased with (especially as DS1 decided to come), and we arrived around 3pm as predicted. It was lovely to see DS3 after ten weeks away :).

DH helped him pack his computer, and I bagged up his rubbish and washed his plates, cutlery and mugs so they're clean for when he goes back! DH also cleaned his sink and poured Harpic down his toilet. We also bagged up all his towels and dirty laundry to bring home to wash! I don't know how he can live like that .

We had a meal at Pr3zzo partly with our Mr T vouchers and then drove home and arrived back at around 11pm. Better than when we dropped him off as we got back at 2am then .

I went to bed at midnight but DH and I do feel tired today. It's a lovely sunny day and it's mother's day, so I could do with a distraction, but I also feel exhausted and want to be ready for work tomorrow. So we'll probably just stay in today :(.

    YESTERDAY'S SPENDS

£100 on petrol and drinks for the two journeys.
£50 on the Pr3zzo meal as we only had £39 in vouchers.
£140 for two new tyres and oil for the car (oil was empty)

So a bit of a spendy day yesterday . But DS3 is going to give us £50 towards the petrol. We would have needed the tyres and oil anyway. So the actual journey cost us £100. It's difficult to see how it could be much cheaper. Driving for twelve hours in a day is very tiring so we felt we needed the coffees and the meal to give us energy for the journey. I did make sandwiches and take bananas which we had for lunch, and DH bought chocolate bars and hot cross buns for himself and DS1 to snack on.

It's probably just as well we're staying at home today so we don't spend any more money.
