Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

We had a nice time on Saturday when DH, DS1 and I went to the nearby town to celebrate my birthday.
We were late leaving because we'd run out of rabbit food and the pet shop didn't open unti 10am. And then we were stuck in a traffic jam entering the town due to roadworks and it started to drizzle
.
But once we arrived we had a coffee in Costalot which revived me
and then wandered around the shops so I could spend my birthday money (which I opened early
). I bought a spring jacket (£20 0ff with a voucher I was emailed) and a jersey dress in the sale, both of which I was very pleased with. We were very extravagant and had lunch in Byron and then another coffee in Costalot before we left. But I had really nice day.
Then in the evening DH and I went out for a meal just the two of us and it felt good (and unusual) to have some couple time. So I had a lovely birthday celebration yesterday
.
Although I felt guilty for having a spendy day

Today I'm mainly resting as my tickly cough kept waking me up in the night so I had a very restless night. My ear is still quite blocked and I feel very tired, so we're not working on my business today.
I've cleaned out the furry moron, done two loads of laundry, one of which is drying in the garden because it's lovely and sunny, and the second load I'm about to hang in the garden on our second clothes horse.
I'm not going to do very much apart from that as I want to rest and recuperate ready for volunteering and work tomorrow. I also want to start on my new assignment after work on Tuesday as I want to crack on with it a lot sooner this month.
DS3 should be home next week so I'm really looking forward to that as I won't have seen him for ten weeks. And in a week and a half DS3 will come home from abroad. It will be really nice to have them all home again

Your birthday treats sound lovely, just what you both need, and you really needn't feel guilty (though I know it's instinctive!).
I would never advocate letting go the reins of economical living, but once in a while, when you actually know you can afford it, it is really good to have a holiday from counting every penny.0
