Do you have a slowcooker HH? A friend/relative who you can make some 'ready meals' in their oven then you just need to microwave it?

No we don't have a slow cooker unfortunately. I'm sure stepdad or my aunt would oblige, but they live a 20 mins - 30 mins drive away and I don't want to bother them.
We'll be fine for a while, we won't starve.

Sorry to her you feel unsettled about your stepdad's friend. I would too. Carboot and Daisy shared such helpful insights.
I hope your cold is easing. If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Thanks DIA. I guess you must cook a lot of things in saucepans? I usually eat a Linda M burger or sausages, a baked potato and baked beans most nights. DH and the DC usually have the same but with meat, or I give them chips a few times a week, and some kind of veg. All of this tends to involve the oven and microwave.
I used to do spag bol on the hob once a week, but since my mum died I can't face cooking so things get shoved in the oven. DH does a veg curry or pasta bake on a Saturday. Our diet isn't great but we're still alive. I'll just have to get better at microwaving things. Or someone else can take over the cooking.
My cold still feels bad. When I get up for too long I feel unwell, light headed and nauseous and headachey. I guess my bad night didn't help matters. But hopefully I'll get better soon as it's only been four days since it came on properly.

I am late to the news of your stepdad as well , you have had some lovely posts about it. I guess everyone will have a different view on the situation , I couldn't offer an opinion as I haven't been in your position .
Hope DH gets chance to look at your oven soon, and it is something cheap and simple to fix. How are you feeling with your cold now ?Here is to a good nights sleep. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I too am late to the news surrounding your stepdad but echo you have had some truly amazing responses. When my Mum died in 2015 Dad rekindled a phone relationship with his first love who he had been engaged to before meeting my Mum. To be honest, despite this lady marrying and having 4 children, I think he broke heart. I had to tell her of my Dad’s passing last year and I could just tell.
As to friendship vs romance I question whether it really matters? I don’t want to spell out what I’m thinking because it is delicate but perhaps either way your dear stepdad does simply need “companionship”. If my Dad hadn’t suffered from Parkinson’s disease I feel sure he would have actively sought out female company and in many ways he did - just not full on romance.
I feel for you though because it does seem rather soon. Better than him hiding it though.
