A belated Happy New Year Hairy to you and your family!
I agree with doingitanyway that you have coped extremely well this Christmas and New Year under the circumstances. Your mum will always be in your thoughts at this time but it won't be so raw in the years to come and you can remember your happy memories of her.
I do hope 2019 proves a turning point financially for you and OH this year. Hopefully there will be some jobs in the post and you have your training course to look forward to. Keep up with your routines as well!

Thank you both. It hasn't been easy but maybe next year it won't be so hard.

Happy New Year, HH !
I often keep my decorations up till Candlemas. My excuse is that it's pre 12th Night traditions, but actually it's a combination of idleness and not wanting to take them down because they look pretty.0 -

I think taking them down is so much more of a chore than putting them up:(. At least when they go up there's the promise and expectation of a good time ahead which adds a bit of excitement to the whole process. Once down the house looks duller and reminds us of the dark winter days that lie ahead. It's a long time to the next major 'holiday':(.
When I was growing up my Dad used to put the decorations up. He really enjoyed it and had a great flair for it. He usually did the whole lot in an evening when my brother and I had gone to bed. He probably was at it until very late. I always loved waking up the day it was all finished to discover the house looking magical:j. He wasn't so keen to take them down though! It was a chore assigned to my brother and I once we were old enough:(0 -

I agree with everyone else, HH:T. You've done so well to make this Christmas special for your DH and sons despite all the emotions you were going through. I'm full of admiration:A0 -

When is Candlemass Elizabeth? I do sometimes feel tempted to leave up the fairy lights, but then I think of my electricity bill .carbootcrazy wrote: »I think taking them down is so much more of a chore than putting them up:(. That sounds lovely waking up and seeing the house transformed. Taking them down is quicker but does make the house look a bit bare.

Enjoy your Saturday:beer:
It's so gloomy and really cold here but no ice on the car windscreen, unlike yesterday morning when I had go out early and had a lot of scraping to do:eek:. I hope it's warmer and brighter where you are.0 -

I keep fairy lights up all year round, I doubt they use any more electricity than a table lamp but their twinkly loveliness is nicer than a lamp imho. In fact it's two sets as I can never decide whether i like coloured or white better. They are round a built in bookcase and can be seen from the hall as I walk about the house as well as when we are in that room.
I also have two sets in my clinic for humans to look at (not sure the dogs really care :rotfl:) one that looks like berries and slowly morph thru colour changes, the other white.
As you can see I love fairy lights beyond all reason :smileyhea22: 3🏅 4⭐ 23: 5🏅 6 ⭐ 24 1🏅 2⭐ 25 🏅 🥈⭐ Never save something for a special occasion. Every day is a special occasion.
