I keep fairy lights up all year round, I doubt they use any more electricity than a table lamp but their twinkly loveliness is nicer than a lamp imho. In fact it's two sets as I can never decide whether i like coloured or white better. They are round a built in bookcase and can be seen from the hall as I walk about the house as well as when we are in that room.

I also have two sets in my clinic for humans to look at (not sure the dogs really care :rotfl:) one that looks like berries and slowly morph thru colour changes, the other white.

As you can see I love fairy lights beyond all reason :smileyhea

I love that idea and would definitely try it if I had a set of lights:T. I would have them in my little sitting room/study which no one uses except me. OH would think me completely bonkers but I think he already does anyway:rotfl:. I couldn't cope with twinkly, flashing ones though as I read a lot and can't concentrate if there are any sort of distractions:o. That's why I like to use 'my' room as OH has the TV on in the main lounge and I just can't concentrate on my books if I sit in there with him.
  • Happy Saturday Saunter day. x

I hate taking down the decorations and I need to put some bits back up in the loft. I got stuck up there when I brought some down so holding off a little. Only a few bits now as I have done the main things. Glad DS2 is being more helpful as well. That will make things easier for you. x

I am another fairy lights fan. I use tiny white lights on a wire string from Primarni. They use batteries. They are such a cheap purchase, just a few pounds but so much pleasure :)

They sound lovely:T. I like the white ones best. Do you use yours at times other than Christmas like Daisy does?

I'm another one who has fairy lights up all year round. Got them all over the house, even got a lit twig tree in the kitchen :)

I love the idea of so many people using fairy lights not only at Christmas:j. I don't know anyone in RL who does it and I'd no idea that anyone did:o. A twig tree sounds lovely, maybe I might copy that idea.
  • I do like fairy lights but worry that by having them up all the year round it might feel less magical at Christmas.

When we went to the NT house to see the Christmas decorations it really made me rethink mine. I was just enchanted the first time when we went with DS1 and DS2. But DH and I had another look around the house on new year's day and I was analysing why they looked so amazing. I decided that it was because the lights were all white, they did not flash and they had a LOT of lights on each tree.

So one day when I have money to burn, if that day ever comes :o, I'd like to replace all our Christmas decorations with beautiful tasteful ones. I'd like a quality tree with lots of white lights on and maybe all silver or all gold baubles, wreaths and garlands that are just green with a few red berries and with white lights in. That would look fantastic :T.

Of course I'd need a fabulous and tasteful house to go with the decorations :o.

I did my Saturday ramble this morning. I wanted to look for presents because it's DS2's birthday next week  (I know, we planned that really badly) and all we've got him were some merino wool socks in the sale.

So today I bought him a set of two Rockingham Crystal whisky glasses that were in their original box. I got it in the charity shop for £10, which I hope was a bargain. I also got him a small globe for his desk as he loves travelling so much. The globe was new and cost £19.50. Then in another charity shop I found a round orb type thing made of marble which I thought he could use as a paper weight, for £2.50.

So a few gifts bought which I hope he'll like and about £15 left to spend. Apart from that it was my coffee for £2.75, bus money of £2.40 and cheese and fruit for about £3.

We go for a tree with all the ornaments made by our daughter at nursery and primary plus new and much loved old ones from my husband 's and my childhoods. (Both sets of our parents have been dead a long time).
It definitely ain't tasteful but we all love it!
