  • Thank you Nicnak :). I wanted to get the Christmas stuff while it was cheap, so it's less expensive next year.

I always do the same. Wrapping paper, tags and Christmas cards. I usually end up saving around £50. I also buy reduced presents for birthdays throughout the year.. x
    September 2017 Debt = £25330

  • I don't get reduced presents during the year but I should. Although I've made a good start with DS1's Xmas socks :).

  • Thanks for all your kind wishes. I have read up more on coma patients, who can surprisingly last quite a long time without input - anything from 3 days to a fortnight. Another visitor today gives the same report. I thought maybe my Aunt was waiting to see me, but perhaps she's waiting for the New Year - she's just wonderful !

Regarding all you amazing people who plan for next year - I have one small contribution. ie when I take my cards down I cut them into gift tags for next year.

Good idea on making gift tags. Thank you:T

For many years I've tried to support a local charity in a nearby town that sends Christmas shoeboxes full of small gifts, toiletries etc to deprived children and orphans abroad. It started off after there was all that TV coverage of the horrendous state of the Romanian orphanages and children's homes in Ceaușescu's regime, many children with special needs just tethered unattended all day to cold radiators and bed frames in filthy conditions. Heartbreaking. The people who volunteer at the charity support others too but for several months a year they are focused on their shoebox appeal. They reuse all the Christmas wrapping paper they can get and the fronts of Christmas cards too so I'm on a mission among family and friends every year to snaffle all their cast-offs.

The volunteers also make things to sell to raise funds and one of their ideas is making little packs of gift tags from the fronts of old Christmas cards. They sell well at their fundraising events.
  • I'd never thought about turning cards into gift tags. What an amazing idea. x

When my dear mil was in her final 2 days we played her favourite CDs and talked to her about the old days when her boys were young, about her husband and her honeymoon and other holidays over the years including the ones we took with them. I know she could still hear us and it soothed her hearing about the happy times in her life.

Its difficult at the time but comforting to look back on
