  • Enjoy your family lunch. Of course you are bound to feel a little sad but it will pass. I am desperately finding things to distract myself from even thinking about this being my first Christmas with no parents so I totally understand.
On a lighter note we’ll done getting your Christmas shopping done. I’m going into slight panic mode deciding when to do ours but there will only be the two of us and food shops don’t close for another 4 days! We’re having chicken too - turkey too big and dry and the other culprits just not worth the money. Apart from my tried and tested red cabbage and apple, veggies and roasties pretty much else will be pre-made even though I can cook.
Re DS3 - how about beans on toast or just rounds of toast if he’s hungry out of hours?

Thanks Sally :). Will you spend Christmas just you and DH? I'm hoping that on the day we'll be kept busy cooking and going for a walk and that will distract me from thinking about my mum too much.

I hope you get your food shop done before it gets too crowded. Early morning or late at night are the least busy times I would assume.

The trouble is DS3 eats when I'm asleep  but I will suggest sandwiches or rounds of toast rather than constant cooking.

First Xmas definitely the worst, SF. I found that toasting absent ones, while it might make one feel choked at best, it seemed right to formally acknowledge that they were thought of with love.
My father's birthday came round while we were on holiday with friends. We toasted him, and one friend said, 'He sounded as if he was a fine man' - yes, he was and I miss him still. But whilst my voice was very unsteady for a bit, it seemed to help that others thought of him for my sake. I hope your Xmas is as happy as it can be.

As for feeding young men, I remember my brother used to come home from school and eat 2 thick slices of bread while he was THINKING about what to eat !!

Thank you Elizabeth. It will be difficult but we have to get through it.

I don't understand why young men eat so much .

That would seem to me to be the finest epitaph anyone could hope to attain. I hope somebody will say that about me after I'm gone (substituting some sort of feminine noun of course:) my days of being mistaken for a boy are long gone :rotfl:!!).
