  • Water cannon or mediaeval castle type of cannon? :rotfl:

Water cannon would be a brilliant deterrent but just my luck to drench someone like the vicar out to attract more people to the services:rotfl:. I wouldn't recognise him, not being one of his flock.
  • Just had a brainwave, a rare event:rotfl:

Somewhere in the depths of one of the sheds is a huge enamel sign that OH picked up somewhere. Don't ask me why he got it, probably was being thrown out, he wouldn't have bought it. If I remember correctly it has very obvious black lettering and a skull and crossbones:eek:. It says something like 'strictly no admittance beyond this point'. I think it may also say 'danger'. That should give a loud and clear message that even the thickest skinned of these people can understand. Even foreigners with poor English should understand a skull and crossbones:rotfl:

If we could find somewhere to put it to stop people at least coming round the back it would be brilliant:j. I don't find it too intrusive if they come to the front door as we have a spyhole and I don't always answer if I don't recognise the caller. I just feel awkward if they see me inside through windows at the back or the French door and not responding. They just knock or ring louder, probably think I'm some deaf old biddy. Now all I need to do is persuade OH to find the sign. Not today though, he's unbearably grumpy and snappy:(

That sounds just the ticket :). Why is OH grumpy today?

Well the vicar should go to the front door like everybody else :rotfl:.

OH is always grumpy but today he's mega-grumpy. I daren't ask why or I'll get my head bitten off. Best to keep a distance when he's like this:eek:

As for people using the front door, they very rarely do:mad:. They seem to like trekking all the way round the back on some uneven and pretty precarious paths to come bothering us. They have to pass several windows on the way and can see if we're in. I could cope with as many as want to ring/knock if they stayed at the front door because with the spyhole I can pick and choose who I speak to. The last people who came to the front door pestering us was a poppy seller last November and a couple of easily-recognised Jehovah's Witnesses a few months ago. This was despite the big signs at eye-level. I spoke to the poppy seller because I mistakenly thought it was someone OH knows but didn't buy anything as I already had a poppy. I ignored the JWs completely.

Some people can't take a hint, if you can call a big sign a hint :)

  • I enjoyed volunteering this morning. It always makes me feel closer to my mum because she was a primary school teacher. I wish I could still tell her about my day :(.

When I got back I went for a long walk in the park and took photos of the autumn leaves, as it's like a summer day today and I haven't had a good walk all week. I can feel tension building up in me when I don't get my walks.

I've done 10,839 steps, 4.83 miles, 1,631 calories, 45 floors and 61 active minutes so far today.

I've also washed some laundry and put away clean laundry, which doesn't sound like I've done very much.

Sounds like quite a lot to me:T

All I've done outside today is give my ancient car a good wash and polish. It looks years younger now, although I doubt I do:rotfl:. Lovely sunshine but not the 'hot' kind that I can't stand. Turning much cooler this last half hour though:(

I wondered, HH, whether, given that you enjoy working with young children so much, you've ever thought about becoming a Classroom Assistant? When I was a school governor we occasionally recruited some of our regular volunteers (who we knew had what it takes and who got on well with the staff and children) onto the permanent paid staff if a suitable vacancy came up.

Obviously it's set hours and would be pretty tying considering you are wanting to start your own business but it might be worth a thought. I bet you'd be perfect for the job:A. Regular income too;)

I have thought about it Carboot. I'll have to see if an opportunity comes up. I would love a regular income!

    Thanks DIA.

  • In none-cold caller related news the customer who owed us £500 has finally paid us. So the mortgage and council tax for October are now paid, which is a massive relief :).
