I loathe with a total passion cold callers be it by phone or in person.
MY DS used to get embarrassed when I was short with them.
I pointed out I did not ask them either tp phone or call.

It seems that everyone hates cold callers. They're being rude to cold call and disturb busy people, so they deserve all they get. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

We get a lot of spam phone calls. I am well versed in their tactics, and, depending on my mood, may cut them off or engage them in pointless conversation. The rationale behind the latter approach is that while they are wasting their time with me they are not gulling some vulnerable individual. It is, I think, a very cruel way to make a living.0

It is very heartless I think. Cold calling is very inconsiderate as the person you're disturbing is either busy, or enjoying a well earned break. They often target elderly people who they see as vulnerable, and those people may have mobility issues that make answering the door difficult, and find salesmen intimidating. Companies that cold call are not ones I would want to do business with.
I did hear a funny story once about someone being constantly contacted by a conservatory company. They got so fed up with being pestered, that in the end they arranged a visit to hear the sales talk and be 'measured up' for a conservatory. It turned out they lived in a first floor flat and the conservatory would have had to float in the air :rotfl:.
My dad said he says sometimes says to salesmen "Come in because I'd like to talk to you about Jesus." and they run a mile :rotfl:. He is very religious so he'd do it too! Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I have volunteering again today and then it's half term. I'll miss it next week. At least Pilates is on at half term.
I've found some Yoga videos on You Tube so I'd like to do a bit of yoga inbetween sessions to strengthen my back. I have some Barbara Currie dvds that I love but our dvd player has gone wrong. You have to open the slot with tweezers to get the dvd out and it makes a loud buzzing noise throughout . We can't afford to replace it at the moment, so You Tube is the way forward. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

My worst cold caller was for house repairs just when I'd gone self employed. I explained that with no guaranteed income, I couldn't commit to anything so they offered me credit at extortionate ratesMortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. The car crash cold calls are frustrating. My ex used to handle them perfectly.
Saying things like 'do you think I could claim?' "even though I'm on bail for it?'
It got his number taken off most of the calling pages pretty quickly.
I find it intimidating being on my own now. I sometimes get asked if my parents are in. I just say no, and close the door!September 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x0 -

I've got better things to do than answer my door and discuss the meaning of cold calling with a stranger, on my cold doorstep! Just respect the sign and don't ring my doorbell in the first place .
I've no idea where this one was from as I didn't give him a chance to saybut he looked like the sort who would be hoping to catch an elderly person and do a distraction burglary.
The person previous to him who rang the bell was a political canvasser who also claimed not to be a cold caller. The exact same scenario unfolded; "Did I ask you to call?....".
Funnily enough just after I posted on here, my doorbell went again. It was a foreign chap who looked completely out of it, asking for a glass of water. I told him no and shut the door on him. I felt very guilty, but it got me very paranoid. I watched where he went after, and he walked into my next door neighbours garden, then changed his mind, got in a van and drove away! We don't live somewhere where you 'just pass by', so it all looks a bit iffy to me.
My sign is the one from this site, it says we don't buy anything, we don't want information either, and no charities or religious groups. It should cover every eventuality, so makes me even more cross when they ignore it!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do".
