I am so very sorry to read your news about your mum. I know she has been a massive support to you all and it must have been a terrible shock.

It's the time now to grieve your loss as well as celebrate your mum's life. You and the family will find the best ways for you to do it.

    Trust your instincts.

Getting back into nature is a great way to appreciate both what you have as well as the part your mum has played in your life.

Lots of virtual hugs. Take care my friend
We all will be thinking of you

  • Thank you all for being so kind.

I knew my mum wouldn't live for ever but it's devastating when it actually happens. It's hard to imagine life without her, but I know she would want me to be happy so I have to try.

There is no timescale for grief, and if anyone tells you you'll feel better after x amount of time, well you may, you may not. Eventually, you begin to incorporate the loss into everyday life, but can still be blindsided (I call them sledgehammer moments) by a piece of music, a favourite food in the supermarket, or the sign saying Mother's Day cards.
I guess all we can do is be grateful we had a Mum we could mourn (so many don't for lots of reasons) and enjoy all the lovely memories, even if through a curtain of tears.

    xxxx

It's the first year that's the worst - the first Christmas, Mother's Day, etc without them. Once you can no longer say "this time last year.." it gets a bit better. But you'll still think about her and miss her every day. It's just an awful time and nothing anyone can say will make you feel better at the moment. It's good you have support and that you can be there for your step-dad. Thinking of you and your family, take care xx

  • Thank you everyone for your kind messages. It does help.

My mum's funeral was yesterday. It was a very emotional day but a fitting tribute to her. After the church service and crematorium we went back to my mum and stepdad's garden for tea and cakes. My mum loved tea and cake.

Now I have to live the rest of my life without my lovely mum, which will be hard, but I know that all she ever wanted was for me to be happy. So I will try to live my life the way mum would have wanted me to.
