  • Totally agree with you, the prices would rise, but we can dream , detest food shopping .

I quite like food shopping but it gets me out of the house :o (working from home makes me stir crazy).

I rely on home delivery as we no longer have transport. I still prefer to buy the fresh fruit and veg myself though as I like to see it and look at the use by date but I pass a Lidl on my way home from work every day so not a problem.

Hope you're going for your Saturday wander today HH - enjoy :)

I agree about the fruit and veg, you have to check for half rotten stuff .
Wish I passed a Lidl on a regular basis, I love their store. My nearest supermarkets, even small ones are in our local very small town which is 7 miles away. There's just a Morrisons and a Co-op. Then a couple of years ago they opened an Aldi but it's not as good as Lidl in my opinion so I never go there. When I take a trip to my nearest 'big' town (16 miles away) where they have the full range of big supermarkets I always pop into Lidl and stock up with my favourites:j. Sadly, it's only about every 3 months:(

My first Morrisons home delivery was brilliant:j. Lovely new van and the driver said it was his first day and I was his very first ever customer. There didn't look to be much in the van as it's the first week of home delivery in this area so I hope people get to use it when they realise they can and it doesn't cease to exist. Everything arrived, no substitutions, and was perfectly packed in bags labelled 'cupboard', 'fridge' etc. which was a helpful touch. The use-by dates were really long too so I was impressed. Even Sainsburys used to send things that needed eating/using by the next day:(. Delivery is free until the end of June, plus 500 extra More points per order, so I'll definitely be using the service lots of times until then. They deliver from my nearest massive store which I never go to because of the distance so it was nice to be able to get some items which my local smaller store doesn't stock. All in all, a happy bunny:j

That's brilliant that your Mr M de,ivery was so successful, free as well and extra points :T.

    .
    Have a lovely day HH

    x
    Thanks Wannabe :)
Yes - you're right. I saw a programme on TV a few months ago about the rise in food delivery services like Just Eat and Deliveroo. In it they mentioned that supermarket delivery isn't at all profitable but it's so popular now that individually the supermarkets are scared to stop it. If Aldi or Lidl did deliver their prices would certainly rocket!

Your volunteering sounded very rewarding. :)

I know you've had a lot going on lately what with your flu and visitors but have you thought anymore about upping your income work wise?

Hope you enjoy your Saturday wander today.

I may do an extra session of volunteering soon so I could have the option of applying for those sort of jobs. However DH seems much more energised on the work front lately and we have some exciting possibilities in the pipeline. It's a case of keeping my options open and monitoring the situation. Thanks for asking SSG :).

Thinking of you on your Saturday jaunt, HH:beer:. I hope the weather is being kinder where you are than it is here. Rain, rain, rain. Then, just for a change, heavy drizzle:(

Rain free here but cloudy. Although the sun came out for about half an hour :).

My Saturday saunter wasn't too spendy today. The usual on bus and latte (I love my lattes :D). Then £2 on a book 'Sunday Morning Coming Down' by Nicci French, which is in excellent condition. Spent £1.80 on a red lobelia for the garden. £3.48 on tweezers and dental floss, and £3.88 in Mr T on bananas, satsumas and chocolate for DS1. Then another £3 on grapes, strawberries and blueberries from the fruit stall.

It was manic at the shops  so I thought it must be payday.

Tonight I'm going out with my friends. I can'y really afford it but I missed the last one because I was at the hospital with DH. Plus one of them has the all clear from cancer and we're celebrating that :T. We're going to a pasta/pizza type restaurant so there should be some vegetarian options. We split the bill usually so I hope the others don't order expensive stuff .

I'm going to do a bit of gardening in a minute as it's a bit of a weedfest out there . DH has offered to clean out the furry moron today :T. He's in disgrace at the moment as he weed on the carpet, so he's confined to quarters (furry moron not DH :rotfl:).

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday :).

  • Sounds like a fun night out. You deserve it and I hope you really enjoy it without it being too expensive:beer:

I've never read anything by Nicci French yet. I see a few in the mobile library but for some reason I've never chosen one. Is that the husband and wife couple who write books together? Are they any good? Would you recommend?

Last time I was selling at a car boot sale I bought a couple of books from the adjacent seller. 2 for £1 and they are in really nice, clean condition:j. They are by Peter Lovesey, who I've read books by before and really liked so I hope these are as good. They're crime novels based in the Bath area. Not started yet, I'm still finishing off Larry's Party by Carol Shields which I half read, had to pack away in a hurry when we had to have some emergency building work done and forgot all about it:o. I rediscovered it by accident and am so glad that I did:j. It's not crime but I don't always read crime although it's my favourite genre.

    Thanks Carboot :).

Nicci French are excellent, I highly recommend their standalones as well as the Frieda Klein series. They are the husband and wife couple. I haven't tried Gerald Lovesey yet. So many books so little time :).

We've had rain today - garden does NOT need any more thank you.
Younger daughter & 3yr old grandson came round for homemade lasagne & lemon drizzle cake (I'd have done the same at her age !!). Grandson wanted to try a 300 piece jigsaw of Thomas the Tank Engine. Took about 30 secs to realise his mistake. Daughter & hubby knocked themselves out doing it whilst grandson & I threw cushions at each other for an hour!! Think he & I had more fun.
  • @Elizabeth I love your story about the jigsaw and the cushions :D
