Doing the windows is one of the few household jobs I normally enjoy. Well, 'enjoy' is probably the wrong word:rotfl:, but it gives me a lot of satisfaction when it's done. I love sparkly clean windows. I can ignore griminess elsewhere:o

We've only got a small garden but it's full of shrubs. I don't know what they are and how to manage them. I think it's too overgrown and looks a mess but DH disagrees. Our back garden is small and really badly designed so there's a lot less space than there could be. DH has emotional attachments to the garden so it's practically impossible to get him to change any of it"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I might have to disagree with you on that one, HH:o. My late mother was uber-houseproud and a tidiness fanatic:eek:. We lived in what always looked like a magazine picture of the ideal home. As you'll gather, that's the total opposite of me and my home:eek:
If my upbringing (that aspect of it anyway) is going to get me it's left it a bit late seeing as I'm now a pensioner:rotfl:0 -

Your garden sounds identical to mine, small but overgrown .Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

My theory is you are either just like your parents or rebel and become the complete opposite, there is no inbetween :rotfl:. I am hideously similar to my parents .Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Talking of house proud, my sister and her DH are coming for a meal tonight and as they only see my house once a year I don't want it to look like a complete pig sty .
We're going to the shops this afternoon, so I've been tidying and cleaning all morning. At least it's forcing me to do it and it should look better for weeks now :T.
I can't believe how long it takes and every time I clean something the thing next to it looks dirty . It's never ending .Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

You all sound like you had wonderfully active healthy weekends. We went out in the garden for 5 minutes between showers, to jump up & down on the squelchy grass with 3yr-old grandson - then went back indoors to continue with mammoth Brio layouts that go all round the house !!
I swear the Brio breeds - after all it's not like daughter suggests 'we could do with more long straights/double female adaptors/small curves......' and I look on Amazon, is it ?0 -
I hope you had a good evening with your sister and her DH, HH:beer:. It's always lovely to enjoy a home-cooked meal with family or friends IMO:j
Have you had any further news about BIL's health? I hope he is continuing to make good progress. I'm a bit anxious about OH's health at the moment. He has a long-standing thyroid condition which he has to take lifelong medication for and as a result has blood tests every 6 months to monitor the dosage. Because of all the recent talk and publicity about prostate cancer (and the fact that OH is always moaning about having to go to the loo very frequently these days:eek:). I bullied him into seeing his GP for a prostate test. He had the manual investigation done:eek: . The Doc said his prostate was slightly enlarged but nothing unexpected for someone of his age. The Doc also asked the nurse to do a blood test to double-check.
Someone from the Surgery phoned OH yesterday to say his results for that were fine:j but the other blood tests they did at the time show he is pre-diabetic. He has so many blood tests for the thyroid and other conditions that I'm surprised this wasn't flagged up sooner, especially as he had the last tests only 6 weeks ago when they tested for everything!
I'm not too worried about the pre-diabetes diagnosis as I know it is usually a wake-up call to change habits but I can't see why he is in this category. He isn't obese or even very overweight. I'd say he could afford to maybe lose half a stone but who couldn't?. He does a fair amount of exercise by walking and cycling, hardly ever drinks, eats all the right things. That's why I'm a bit anxious as I can't imagine what else he can do to stop becoming fully diabetic.
I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here, he still has to see the practice nurse next week so maybe she'll give him some tips. He's just hoping it won't mean any more pills. He takes so many for various things that he rattles when he walks:eek:0 -
