DS1 infamously once said that all fiction was 'just a bunch of lies written down'. The only fiction book he ever liked at juniors (and read to me!) was a lovely one about 'old mrs mogs and her 26 cats' and that was because he thought I would like it. No idea why
Good to see you up and about!
(ETA and Amazon have it, so tempted to buy it!)
I had a similar surprise Redo. I've always loved reading and DH is a reader too, but only DS1 enjoyed reading. Who do DS2 and DS3 take after?. However now they are grown up DS2 and DS3 do read a lot of non fiction.
I can't imagine why DS1 would think you would like that book :rotfl:.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Yep - it's a complete and utter mystery why he would do that!:rotfl:
Thanks SSG I did.

It's often the things that we have to make an effort to do, or maybe don't want to do at all that end up being the most enjoyable once we've actually started. I know you were only reluctant because of not feeling 100% yet but it's true in general in my experience.
I agree about how lovely it is to share a book with children:j. I used to volunteer to read twice a week with an infant class of 6 year olds a few years ago and I still chuckle when I remember one particular boy. He found reading a real struggle and seemed to be on the same very very short book for about a fortnight. The teacher wasn't going to move him on to the next in the series until he could actually 'read' the one he was on:eek:. Personally, I thought giving him a different one at the same level would motivate him more but it wasn't for me to say;). Anyway, one day when it was his turn he came bounding up to my little reading corner with the book that he'd been struggling over and taking home every night but now with a massive smile on his face. He said '' you're going to be amazed today, I can read this book without even looking at it''.:rotfl:
Thanks Carboot, I love your story.
I suddenly realised that one little boy was crying yesterday when he was reading to me . I asked him why he was upset and he said he was tired, so I said he'd better stop reading then and that he'd done very well. The teacher came over and told him to go out to play and said to me that it wasn't my fault as he always got upset easily!
I'd feel like an ogre except that all the other children seem to enjoy reading to me :rotfl:. Infants are such funny little things. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I certainly am Nicnak, I can' wait. I'm looking forward to my Costalot latte and my Saturday cider.
I'm so glad it's the weekend as I feel shattered now I'm back doing my normal routine. It's awful when you live for the weekend, isn't it.

DS2 and DS3 asked DH to book their flights to Iceland for the end of April using DS2's card, DS3 is going to pay him back.
I'm excited for them. DS3 has only been abroad once and that was years ago, so I'm pleased he's going to have a lovely holiday with his brother. I'll be worried about two of them this time though.
DS3 asked if DH and I would pay for his passport and we felt we had to say yes, so we need to find £82 for that . DS3 has been saving his pocket, Christmas and birthday money for years so has about £500. I hope that's going to be enough. The flights were only £130 each and they're going to stay in a hostel.
It's all go in the Hairy house .
I hope everyone is having a good Friday.

The passports are so expensive, but its a useful thing for him to have going forward.
Hope you get your Saturday saunter
Both my pair read willingly now which is a relief, both prefer non fiction but they like the warhammer 40k novels and douglas adams so I encourage that. Any reading has to be good but it makes me sad to think of all the brilliant stories they miss out on.My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Children are funny things aren't they? Mine wouldn't learn to read. I eventually discovered that he thought I wouldn't read him a bedtime story if he could read himself. I can still render a decent "exterminate exterminate". But wasn't a fan of the last Dr Who, the next one should be interesting!0

I love that 2 of your boys are going travelling together. I know it might seem like double the worry for you but the fact that DS2 is becoming a seasoned traveller now and is experienced enough to take his younger brother under his wing on the next trip will do wonders for his confidence. I wish them both a wonderful time:beer:
I was all booked to go to Iceland when I was 21. The organised trip involved a lot of travelling by offroad landrover-type vehicles and wading across icy streams:eek:. The itinerary covered a lot of remote country, it was more of an 'adventure holiday' staying in hostels which were very basic back then:eek:. In the end I wasn't able to go as my adored Grandmother who partly brought me up died and I needed to be at home. The friends who went said it was the experience of a lifetime and wouldn't have missed it for the world. I always intended to go at some other time but then work and relationships got in the way and it never happened:(.0 -
Glad you enjoyed the volunteering. I've loved reading since I was very small, DS was the same and it's looking like DGD has inherited the trait. DD is like Mr SA - not bothered.
Good news your boys are going on holiday together, they'll have a great time.
Enjoy your Saturday, so pleased you're back up to the jaunts againI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
