When they dropped from 10 days to 7, they allowed those who were already isolating to end early, I don't see that it's any different now.  You just need to test negative on LFT on day 5 and 6.  So you can't go back to work before you've had two negative LFT 24 hrs apart.  https://www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-for-those-with-covid-19-can-end-after-five-full-days-following-two-negative-lfd-tests

Is there any chance you could spend time in a different room so you could have your cleaning blitz?  Ban DH and the DS from the room while you are in there, and then close the door and open the window for a time after you leave to clear the air.  Equally as you don't really have any symptoms you might find you test negative on LFT, which would mean you are less likely to be infectious.  You couldn't leave isolation early, but it might make you less nervous about leaving the room.

You should apply for the government grant for isolation, not sure what the criteria is for it but worth a try.
    Good idea.

  • I probably could go into the garden, (although I'd have to dodge DH and the three DSs), and I may do that eventually, although as our garden is about the same size as my bedroom it would have limited exercise potential 😂.
    In the garden you could:
    🏵 Do some stretches
🏵 Enjoy a coffee in the (any) sunshine
    🏵 Enjoy watching the wildlife
🏵 Get some free vitamin D
🏵 Enjoy the novelty of a change of scene

If you felt you could social distance enough could a family member join you in the garden for a coffee and allow to socialise for a little while.
Maybe I'll give it a try if it's dry tomorrow :).

  • Assuming you test negative on LFTs on Sunday and Monday you'll be out of isolation by then anyway won't you?

Definitely agree with all those highlighting the benefits (physical AND mental) of getting yourself some proper outdoor light and fresh air though!
I think with curent rules I could go back to work on Tuesday, but I'm hoping with new rules I can end isolation on Sunday.

Thanks Jwil :). That sounds promising. It's difficult because there are five of us in this house so there aren't really any spare rooms. Coffee in the garden is probably my best bet.

If the weather is suitable - I’d be tempted to tell everyone to stay in their own space for a short while whilst you go out and have a bit of a mooch around the garden……see if any bulbs are coming up and getting a change of scenery and blast of fresh air.
My understanding is it’s 5 days for anyone isolating atm as long as those beginning to isolate……as long as there are 2 negative tests. Do you have access to a tv in your isolation room. There was something on the new earlier explains the risks and why they are changing the time scale. You might be able to find it on line.
    January spends - £587.58
