Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I had a lovely time visiting my sister in Scotland and my Dad in the South East. I did some lovely long coastal walks with my sister and had a great day exploring Edinburgh which I loved because it had a great atmosphere and some amazing historic buildings. It was hard to leave though as my sister is lonely now she's a widow. I enjoyed spending time with my dad as he is 88 and I hadn't seen him properly for two years. We had some nice days out with him and stepmum.
DS3 is still with us. He's applying for universal credit so he can give us food money. He's studying at home to improve his skills and is looking for a part time job. It's lovely having him at home.
My main goals are to look after DH and try to prevent another heart attack, and to get a job with more hours. I've been feeling a bit emotional for the last couple of days and I think the stress of DH's heart attack may be catching up with me. I've been coping by being really practical but it was a scary event. I'm also worried about being short of money so I feel pressure on me to apply for jobs. But I feel like I need time to get used to being back at school and my new class. I feel shattered after my first day.

I'm so sorry to hear the news about your DH Hairy. You're really looking after him though and he sounds like he is taking on board all the advice he has been given so I'm sure this will stand him in good stead. You're bound to feel emotional and shattered after everything that has gone on, but take your time in getting back into the work routine.I was pleased to read that you did have a lovely time on holiday with your family - it must have been so nice spending time with your sister and dad after so long.Take care. xFinally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

So sorry to hear about DH, glad he's recovering.
I'm glad you had a nice time with your family otherwise."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -

Hi HHD
Lovely to hear from you but I'm so sorry to hear about DH. I had a heart attack and 2 stents fitted at the grand old age of 45, no obvious reason, just 'bad luck' to quote the consultant. It's very frightening and also extremely emotionally draining for everybody involved. I actually thought I wouldn't make it to the end of the year but if it's any help I'm still here 9 years later. I'd take as much time as you can to sort yourself out which is easier said than done I know, especially from a financial point of view, but you need to look after yourself to be able to help the family in the long run. x

No wonder you haven't been posting. Life just comes along and hits you when you don't expect it.
It must have been such a worrying event for both of you, but this may be the impetus DH needs to motivate him to lose weight.
Whenever you feel up to posting, that will be often enough. In the meantime, love, hugs and strength to cope.7
