Your mention of your humidity meter made me think.
Mine are Digiflex from amazon which will give you something to look at & see if they suit you. I'm sure there are many other makes though.
Sorry hijacked again!0 -
Also hijacking. We have a £120 one from Screwf!x. It collects 16 litres before it needs emptying but to be fair that is quite weighty for my old lady hands to empty. It is audible, but no more so than my oven for example and we tend to run it in a single room and then move it to the next area. I wouldn't hesitate to replace it.
At least with no children in the house you do not come back to someone left the toilet lid up and you have been extracting the 'wrong' water for hours. My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Is his hearing acute or do certain types of noise actually hurt his ears. I am a bit deaf & have been all my life. But some noises other people don't even seem to hear actually make my ears/head hurt. A radio that isn't tuned to the station properly can have me ready to scream, the radio is fine it is the crackle in the background.
I have no issue at all with our dehumidifier, yes I can sometimes actually hear it, but it does not hurt my ears. Also there is nothing to stop you from only turning it on when you leave the house! Maybe set it on a time plug.
Sorry HHOD for really hijacking your thread.
He can literally hear the proverbial pin drop. He finds it a trial rather than a blessing. He can hear things clearly that I can't even hear at all and I don't think my hearing is other than normal level. If we're watching TVs in different rooms I have to have the sound turned pretty low on my set and have the subtitles turned on. Not everything I want to watch has subtitles of course so there's often ructions at telly time:eek:. Most sounds bother him but higher-frequency ones actually hurt his ears. He's seen a GP about it and has been told there's nothing they can do.
I'm sorry your hearing sometimes causes you distress. It must be awful for you.0 -

Thanks. Will have a look at what Screwfix have to offer:T.
I had to laugh at the toilet situation:rotfl:. Although there are no children at home now DH is a one for leaving the downstairs loo lid up:(
Sorry, HHOD. Hijacking again:o. I hope you had a good day at school:beer:0 -

Thanks:T. Will have a look. I have some vouchers stashed there and would like to spend them on something other than books which I have too many of already:o0 -

I have bat-like hearing, and there are some people who I struggle to be in a room with as they can't moderate their volume to something I can bear. I use noise cancelling headphones on planes and trains (and in taxis sometimes) - and I don't always have any sound coming through them, just the active noise cancellation on. Something like that might help your DH. You might also see whether it's easier for you to watch TV using wireless headphones rather than having to go to the hassle of using subtitles.
My mum is slowly getting deafer, and I now can't be in the room when she has the TV or radio on, as the noise level is painful. I live in hope that she'll go to the audiologist and get her hearing aids set up with the app on her phone so that she can control them more easily, but living on her own means she really doesn't have much incentive.0 -
I don't mind people hijacking

I think grey grout is an excellent idea and I'd also like extra large tiles if we can ever afford to change them so there is less grout needed.
Our house is very damp and mouldybecause the outside need re-rendering and our windows don't fit properly. Plus we don't have an extractor fan in the bathroom and we don't have the heating on much due to expense. Does a dehumidifer use a lot of electricity? Because I would worry about our bill getting any higher.

When we first got it we were on a smart meter, and it was less than running the little oil heater. It also had more impact on a cold room.My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Evening HHD
Hope you're keeping well. Just catching up with everything and feel the need to tell you I have grey grout AND a dehumidifier :rotfl:
I put my clothes on the airer, shove them in the smaller room, close the door and it's amazing how much water is in the container and how warm the room feels when I walk in.
Hope everything is going well at school. I imagine it's really on the verge of getting hectic now in the run up to Christmas isn't it. Sorry if I've missed this but will you have to close for the day for elections? xx0 -
I had a busy day at school as there are still several staff off sick. We had rain on and off all day but it was mainly light showers.
I went to Pilates tonight even though my friend couldn't go as I've missed three weeks so didn't want to miss another. I feel very stretched and relaxed now.
I should have got paid today but I'm too tired to check it so I'll have to do it in the morning. Luckily I don't have to go to school until lunchtime tomorrow.
I hope everyone has had a good Monday.
