Weld exhaust flange

I used to do that kind of thing for a 'butty for the lads' when I worked at a major fast fit....0

Here is a pic0

My exhaust flange is broken and calling around, most people won't do it or some that do want at least £100
a new exhaust is £130 from uk supplier which I could then pass on to someone to decat ( further £20-30)?
on other side of the coin, stainless steel is 400+ on ebay which I assume are unbranded .
Would you notice a performance difference with stainless steel compared to mild steel ?
where would you call around to find welders and people who deal with this kind of thing ?
As soon as I say welding , the guy thinks you need to weld a hole and as it is, the UK garages replace rather than repair so straight answer is no.
car is almost complete but I have a broken flange as per the picture which is stopping my next drift day .
I don't think it will be a big issue apart from burning the gasket
thanks0 -
That isn't a broken flange. That's the pipe rotted away at the weld.0

Not sure what you mean, the flange or the rounded thing is cracked which i guess i could arc weld
I really don't want to remove the whole thing from the car as exhaust flange bolts are nightmare to remove and It may break other things
Best is to fix this but again £150 for that weld is too much hence why i am asking for some opinions
I could weld it myself as i have both arc and mig . It won't look great but will be ok
I just need to find a way to cover fuel tank as it is right close to it
Maybe a oven or pipe soldering protective cloth0 -
Search google for split flange exhaust clamp
There are plenty options from bolt together to split 2 piece
Can even choose between 2 and 3 hole.If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.0 -

Then remove the fuel tank. Move it to the bottom of the garden and just weld the thing up.
Or just take the pipe off and weld the clamp up at the bottom of the garden.0 -
Don't weld near the tank. Covered or not. Spark into a bit of vapour from a breather or a slight leak somewhere you can't see, and a split flange will be (literally) the last of your worries.
I'd seriously consider a new section of pipe, or a new exhaust. Once you start having to weld them they're generally getting tired.0
