Hi all,
I was trying to put the car back together and tightened both side of the flange the same amount but one of them decided to crack !
Is there a way to weld it or replace it?
How much do you think the cost will be?
What kind of shop will you search for to repair?

Pic?
Any half-decent garage or engineering shop should be able to weld it. But the question is why - is it rotted thin, or has it weakened through a fatigue crack because of stress?0 -

I had a flange rusted out on the exhaust and just cut it out and used an exhaust pipe joiner (you can buy different types and sizes on eBay) and clamps to join the two pipes. Still going strong over a year later; saved me buying two exhaust sections.0

I have welded the exhaust flange back onto the catalytic converter on one of my old cars when it snapped clean off going over an excessively aggressive speed bump. Half an hours work including removal and refit of the cat to the car. Was still leak free when I sold the car over a year later. Could have done it on the car but so much easier on the bench and no risk of molten metal down the sleeve.
The mig welder paid for itself that day.
You want to look for a friendly independent garage who value getting the best use out of a part.0 -
It is heavily rusted and i think i might have over torqued it hencr cracking
It connects cat back to down pipe
See pic below
This is how the flange looks like but it is in edge of the pipe, there is no bore like the pic below before the flange

Here is a picture from the internet which shows the pipe exactly as is

I don't want to spend £150 for that flange and own a mig welder but i am very new to welding hence why i want to take it out
What material is it made of?0 -
No, not stock photos of similar but new - let's see how shagged YOURS is.
If it's "heavily rusted", save yourself the hassle. It's almost certainly cracked because it's wafer thin, and any attempt to weld it will see him chasing holes, assuming somebody's daft enough to take it on in the first place.0 -
Will take a photo when next under the car
Is there flanges ine could buy and weld?0 -
Weld to what? The bit of rust a little further down the pipe?
You've just dropped several grand on a spankin' new trailer. Replace the shagged exhaust.0 -
I used to get my exhaust bits and pieces and tyres from one place usually, so I knew the guys there.
Time or two I wanted a flange or a bit of pipe for a repair, they'd let me cut one off their scrap pipes.
In those days a packet of fags showed my appreciation.0
