It's 2017.

It would appear Corbyn may also be a Catholic, just not as honest & open about it as JRM.0 -
If you wanted a Tory government with a Labour sticker on it that teachers might vote for
Interesting concept. Is that what teachers and other Labour voters voted for? A Tory government? If you care about having a chance of a socialist government based on equality and principles
We don't. We have a Tory-DUP coalition.
But I'm sure the revolution is just around the corner.0 -

I have no idea if this story is true, however there is a massive difference between having a religious faith which is practised in private as an individual, and being an MP with pretensions to being PM and coming out with offensive misogynistic, religiously inspired claptrap like this:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jacob-rees-mogg-abortion-oppose-pro-life-catholic-conservative-mp-tory-woman-raped-leader-a7931651.htmlJacob Rees-Mogg has said he completely opposes abortion and believes it to be “morally indefensible” – even after a woman has been raped.
As you like the New Statesman you may find this article enlightening ;

Are you saying Corbyn isn't an an MP with pretensions to being PM? If Corbyn is a Catholic then he presumably holds the same views. He should openly state his religion & his position, as JRM has done.0 -

I know plenty of Catholics who basically ignore the church's teaching on social issues.
Corbyn's views on gay rights are pretty well documented, he has supported gay rights long before it became a vote winner with the general public.
There are plenty of things to bash Corbyn with, this isn't one of them.0 -

Plus many now realise that Corbyn supports whatever he thinks will earn the most votes, examples including the student debt fiasco and Brexit.0 -

There is some truth in that, but I don't see that it has anything to do with him somehow being an undercover catholic, which means he has to agree with every single word that the Pope utters.
Even the sainted JRM would fail that test, he hardly seems in alignment with the Pope's views on the environment for a start, I suspect his views on areas like Welfare cuts would be out of alignment with the church as well.
There seems to be some kind of belief that the criticism of JRM is because he's a christian, in my case its just because I don't agree with him0 -

Exactly.
The Corbynistas are happy to criticize JRM for his beliefs and simultaneously say Corbyn shouldn't even have to say what his are.
Utter hypocrisy.
If he wants to be PM he should be up-front about his beliefs, the luxury of keeping that info private doesn't apply if you want the highest office in the country. He could believe anything and none of us would know.
Of course the reality is unlikely to be anything sinister, it's far more likely that he won't say anything that will cost him a vote, and doubly so when it will almost certainly shine a light on hypocrisy & inconsistency in his stances on various issues. Far safer for him to refuse to answer the question and perfectly in line with his weaselly approach to everything.0 -
Your opinion of Corbyn is zero so you don't exactly set a high bar when using him as comparison.
But don't worry, Corbyn is going to sort out all the student debt.
Oh sorry, that was never going to happen. It was just a wish that they decided not to correct until after the election when students had voted (2 or 3 times) for Labour for that reason.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
