CatherineMM wrote: »Hi please add me to the list. I'm going to aim for £50 per day... I lost today completely as I spent the day broken down on a blind bend with a police safety escort! They suggested I buy a new car. I'm devastated as that's just more money ! My eldest starts secondary school on Wednesday and I need to drive him the 10 miles each way for the school runs... but have no car! A taxi is £30 per journey... I just can't do it... so he will miss his first few days at secondary school probably. I am ill with the worst bout of flu I have ever had too... I think I just want to crawl under a rock and cry.
I will start selling tomorrow and see what I can raise towards repairs for the car... I need to repair it and sell it so I can get a replacement... anyone want a rubbish landrover freelander! Grrrr
Sorry to be so negative... one of those days!
I start with £16 saved in money off grocery coupons in waitr@@e and £2 for a facebay sale...
Good luck everyone and see you all in the threads with lots of cash going in your pockets xxx
My heart goes out to you, Catherine. These emergencies happen at the worst possible times don't they:mad:? Not that there's ever a good time for one. I live very rurally too and I can say from bitter experience that it can be a real pain when emergencies happen, car problems being the worst of the lot:eek:. Sending big hugs your way:kisses3:
Please tell me to mind my own business but if it were me I'd do everything possible to make sure your son manages to get to school for the first few days of this new stage of his education. It's an invaluable time for getting to know whats what, making new friends and generally being part of things. It's easy to feel left out even after a few says. Maybe not much gets taught or learned in the first few days;) but sometimes other aspects of entering a new school are more important.0 -
Sorry, Catherine, just read on after posting the above to see your next posts about bikes. Sounds like a good idea if the weather is OK. Wouldn't fancy it in pouring rain though:eek:
You mentioned someone you know who might help but you don't want to ask. Don't worry about that, it's a genuine emergency and surely anyone would be only too happy to help so long as it doesn't go on too long. I expect you'd offer a bit of money towards the cost and it would be a heck of a lot less than taxi fares. Maybe you could do something for the person in return, We all have skills that someone else might be really grateful to take advantage of;).
Good Luck:beer:0 -
Well, I thought I might eventually find something marginally more interesting than used headbands but now a bouncy castle has entered into the mix I know I won't be winning this challenge:rotfl:0

Hi thanks. Yes I am trying to get him to school for day 1. A friend can do the journey for me on the first few days... then I may have to get a buss pass if there are any spaces... it will mean cutting our food budget by half again though and it's already at minimal. I guess I need to make more money per day then...
Time to up my game I reckon.
I plan on spending the day between flu sneezes listing stuff on eBay.
Does anyone on here sell books on Amazon? I have listed one at £9 but it looks like If I sell I get £8.18 and then have to pay postage from it? Seems steep on fees to me... but having said that the £4 ish would be so much better than nowt at this stage!
I'm off to get busy now...
I have to paint a mirror and shelf too that I just acquired at the tip for £3... trying to make a homework area and dressing table for my soon to be secondary school son...Make £/day March: £1490.85 / £310
Quidco £3,143.16 NSD Mar:14

March Sales of Excess £240.850 -
I made £57 at a boot sale this morning so £45 profit after pitch fees. I packed up at 10.30 though as everything I had left I know I can get more for on eBay. I dropped a few bits to the charity shop on the way home as it's as much about declutter img as making money for me at the moment!
Well done:T:beer:
I know exactly what you mean about getting more for things on eBay. People want to pay the least possible amount at car boot sales, sometimes their offers are derisory:eek:. I tend to take heavy and bulky stuff or awkwardly shaped fragile items to boot sales, the type of things that would be a nightmare to pack and post;). I also sell a lot of books that are flooding Amazon for 1p. They are worth much more but sellers have spoiled the market there:mad:. Amazon buyers have to pay £2.80 postage costs on top so whatever I sell mine for at boot sales is a heck of a lot less for people than the £2.81 they'd have to pay Amazon for the same product. I make more anyway as I don't have to pay Amazon fees plus it's instant decluttering:j0 -
Just made another £8 from a FB sale, I *hopefully* have another £12 coming this evening but won't add until she's collected.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

I sell quite a lot of books on Amazon, or at least I used to but sales seem to have dried up a lot lately. Maybe people will take more of an interest in books when the nights draw in;)
If you list it at £9 you will also get a postage credit of £2.80 on top. That should almost cover the postage cost on a normal sized book. If it can go as a Large Letter you'll make a bit of profit on it:j. I agree that the fees are steep but often the amount of people that see your listing makes it worthwhile. I know people sell books on eBay but Amazon still tends to be most people's first port of call.0 -

Yep, sometimes I think I'd rather just donate something to the charity shop than sell it to someone with an insultingly low offer. I did sell stuff dirt cheap today, I could probably have made the same amount with fewer more expensive sales but then I'd have had to bring stuff home with me :rotfl: Most of it was stuff my mum has thrown out or that I've got for free at work.
How does it all work on Amazon then, do you do FBA? How come they set the postage charge (please explain as if to an idiot as I have NO experience of selling on Amazon at all but am about to start in a big way soon.)Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

:rotfl: That's awesome! Why on earth did you have a bouncy castle? Did you use it that much?!
I was planning to start a mobile soft play/toddler group type thing.
I spend my life trying to think of money making schemes that will mean I can stop commuting into London every day and, more often than not, get cold feet because it's far less scary to carry on doing what I know.
I have another plan on the go at the moment that I AM going to follow through with that is much more closely related to what I've always done (magazine design), it's time to poop or get off the pot!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

No, I don't do FBA. I knew someone who used to but she was a very big volume business seller.
Amazon set the postage credit per category, it's set in stone so you win if the book is cheaper to post and lose out big time if it's a doorstop of a tome that weighs more than 2kg. I was caught out by DVD and CD box sets as the postal credit was the same for a set as for a single item. I complained but they wouldn't budge, the only way to get round that is to raise your selling price to compensate.0
