Is this buyers remorse?

Options
Completed today on our first ever home. When I got the call from the solicitor to say everything's done I was excited but now a few hours later I feel like a wreck!
I don't know what's wrong with me! I loved this house when we viewed it. I loved it when I went back to measure after exchange but now I'm sat back in my rented thinking !!!!!! have we done.

Is this really normal?? Does it pass? I'm never emotional but right now I'm feeling like I could burst into tears at any moment :(

Totally normal. You've reached the end of a pressured, stressful time, you now have a huge responsibility (houses are not cheap!) and some of your options have closed--you can't change your mind about the house and buy another without a lot of stress and hassle--and you now have to move from a low-responsibility rental into a house that you are fully responsible for!!!

On the other hand, you now have your own house, can decorate how you want, can't be evicted as long as you pay the mortgage and it's incredibly, amazingly, exciting!! Congratulations!!

Stress causes a lot of stuff to happen in the body - adrenaline and other things, serotonin and stuff all go out of whack. You're finally there, it's all done, you're relieved and ... whoosh, it's the aftermath of all the biological effects from what's been going on. You have been functioning probably in a "high stress" state for a while and now you're not and your body needs time to adjust.

Very normal! It's your body's response to the last few months of tension being released

I put the first box down in the bedroom, turned to my husband and said "I don't like it"! He's never forgiven me!

So yes, totally normal and should pass fairly quickly.

But then OP said they "love" the house. So I'm sure they'll soon be settling in happily.

It's harder for those of us who've taken a look round at all available houses and thought "Nothing I could actually love comes within the price bracket I can afford - so I'll just have to get the Best Available one for that money". If one doesn't "love" a house initially - then there's every chance we'll knock it to smithereens and back and make it as near to what we want as it's possible to get that particular house and that will help a lot. But we'll probably never "love" it and will always have an eye out for "If I ever get a Premium Bond win or the like - I'll be straight onto RightMove again".

OP is one of the lucky ones though - if they loved it to start with = they love it and will soon feel that way again.

I agree that housebuying "takes it out of you" emotionally at the best of times.

I honestly can't see how any ftber could feel anything other than buyers remorse when buying into this current market, never before have people had to commit such large proportions of their income for quite possibly their entire working lives in order to buy a house and service the mortgage.

It must be truly gutting when you look at just one generation ago, when you could buy typical ftber house for only 2x average income and have the mortgage paid off by middle age and/or be able to move up the ''property ladder''
