Found a bag of ys potatoes under a dish towel in the veg cupboard (no idea how old but looked fine, never happened before

I am often visited by the potato fairy. They appear all over the place. It is magic! My own fault for buying 9p YS 2.5kg bags of spuds
Son wanted to try footie again but got cold feet again once changed. Oh well, not doing that again soon. Tried so many times now. Hopefully I can get him to go back to chess as he liked that and went before the summer break (plus it's cheap).

I know that one so well, sometimes I even get to the car park before he refuses to get out. :( They have put football on after school now though, and it is easier to get him to do stuff after school if it means not having to go somewhere else. It will come.

    Well, good morning, IT'S FRIDAY!!!!

Did my numbers and spend 178/350 on food so far, 20/50 on HH and 74 on other things (paint, day out), so total of 273/400. This will be tight :0.

Better get meal planning to make the most of what we have in an efficient way and we have plenty just now. Might make a big batch of soup again this weekend.

Heating is still off but will soon come to the time where it takes ages to dry the washing because of the cold humidity up here. We'll see. Not yet.

The problem is also there is only limited things he can try as we both work full time. The school does loads of things but they're 3:30 to 4:30 and loads of council and private clubs start before 5, why? It all seems to be geared towards one parent not working. Weekends are kind of a no go either because that's family time or we go and visit friends and relatives. We'll see. Sorry, rant over :o

  • Hi all, a NSD today so far,

I was tempted by the smell of bacon from the canteen this morning, but I resisted as I came prepared with home made cookies (last night's me-time).

I'm not counting it yet as I'm not sure what the plan is with the in-laws tonight.

Foxgloves, Well done on coming home from holiday with money still left in the budget!

SFDs - 3/18. -not achieved one today - OH had to order a replacement valve for our shower @ £90!!!! as it's running cold. Won't be here until mid week and he is working away - so looks like I'm either having baths and washing my hair there (we have a shower/ bath tap thing) or showering in the boys' bathroom! I also went food shopping (just over £30) and had to pay for some school items and a club @ £150 total

Extra monies/ debt repayment - just under £50 cashback claimed in Amazon vouchers towards Xmas - and £50 therefore transferred to kitchen fund

    Food - running total £157.62/ £450

Eating up/ using up stuff - yep - the last of the defrosted cooked chicken eaten today!!!:j

    Lunches taken - yep.

    Social life - none

Exercise - 2/3 for this week.

    Beauty - £2.73/ £10

Time for self - still lacking. Will do better next week when things are more settled (ETA: - did manage to finish off a book in bed with an early night before crashing out :))

Heating off - yep. Still mild. I'm cold, but that's because I'm overtired (awake 3.15 -5.40ish - alarm goes off at 6.04....)

    Happy Friday :)

Check in days 7 and 8 as fell asleep on the sofa last night before posting!

Yesterday was big online grocery shop day, so far £185.26/£400. Got a £10 off £100 spend from Mr M, didn't intend spending that much but bought some things that I would've bought in next week's shop so will be a much smaller big shop next week. Then I get 10% staff discount as DD works there.

    Today was SFD 4/18.

Exercise walk to work and back plus 30 minutes in work gym at lunchtime.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Wednesday - was not a NSD as OH really wanted a takeaway. It's come out of the entertainment fund so not the end Of the world but I was on track for a NSD before that!

Thursday - was a NSD - only got yellow sticker goodies from Asda after work in the bakery item as we were out of bread.

Friday - today hasn't been a NSD - got up too late today (didn't hear the alarm) and went to sleep early last night as I fell asleep on sofa so didn't make lunch. Spent £4 in Greg's.

So, I'm only on 3/18. I need to really try to cut back on unneeded spends next week. Will try not to spend anything at all in the week and make sure I get everything I need on the weekend when we go to shop.

    Hi September Scrimpers,
    Check-in 8/30
First full day back home after camping trip & some useful stuff achieved (I post on the DFW daily thread too, so shan't re-list everything).
Not a SFD. Did our grocery shopping for next week, which came to about £30. Only need to get coffee & veggie stock cubes tomorrow, so will be well under our target spend of £46 this week. Defrosted freezer & made a new detailed list of everything in there. We've prioritised this plus home-grown produce for the coming weeks meal plans.
Also paid cat's cattery fees for the few nights we were away.
Took lots of blackberries out of the freezer & made various things with them, the main one being 10 jars of blackberry & pear jam. I'll use 2 or 3 jars for gifts.
Exercise - I won't hit my goal of 7000 steps today. I've been really busy & have barely sat down, but my activity hasn't been very step-based, so I think I'll only be up to 5000 or so steps in total by tonight.
    Beauty spends - £6.50/£10
Me time - Planning to have a long soak in a hot bubble bath & catch up on some TV programmes.
    Enjoy your Friday nights, all.

Spendy day for me. Most of it on the business account though. Had to pay a fine at the library - had the books ready to go yesterday, but then in the panic of having forgotten to book mum a taxi, couldn't get through to either her (engaged) or the taxi office and went round in person (did not want to send another taxi if she had already ordered one) I ran out of time.

Having lost the SFD I decided to buy a few things which have been on the list for a while. Whilst going the accounts for several years I discovered the printer we have was bought early in 2009, so overdue for retirement. DS3 was using it as a scanner but the ink cartridges were empty. Replacement cartridges cost £35 - £40 and the shop is selling new printers for under £30, so buying new cartridges in the hope that it still works (I remember it being a bit hit and miss for ages) is a bit of a gamble.

I took my own 'advisors', DS3 joined in when the staff could not find the right cable for a customer (one end was right but not the other). They didn't have one so he told them who did (staff were advising other places to try).

Resisted the urge to buy new storage even though DS3 kept patting things and commenting on their 'usefulness' (if I'm the one buying) but (Stationery sister, where are you) I did give in to a set of pushpins in the shape of turtles. Also bought next year's diary. Mum already has a couple of appointments for next year and I was considering buying a mid-year one but then thought why waste time transferring information now and then re-doing it in 4 months. Diary is a page to a day so should be ample for shopping, spending and to do lists (rather than the multiple bits of paper that are floating around at the moment.

As we were having a taxi back, I did another bulk buy of toilet rolls (for me and mum) and made the trolley up to use a £2.50 off £25 voucher. Borrowed the trolley to wheel the stuff through the market (an unplanned 5kg bag of fresh onions went in at the last minute. They both made purchases in the market - Beloved bought skirt beef to make beef jerky, DS3 bought cooked sausages and ate them.

Came home and am steadily working through the paper mountain.

Today I am grateful for bargains (only a bargain if you need it), finally having a working printer (getting very frustrated as I have 3 embroidery patterns downloaded and about 3 dozen marked on pinterest and can't work for long using the pattern on screen - can get on with my C****mas present list and DS1's house warming present now) and feeling more awake and on top of things.

The bit below was actually near the start of the post but got lost

Have done my accounts by hand but have downloaded suitable apps to type them up (and can now print them), washing has been done and dried, ate leftover pizza for meals, took books and charity donations to the library and got new books
