DVLA continue to charge fee for credit cards

Despite the Government announcing that charges on credit cards are to be abolished from 2018, I notice when re-taxing my car that the DVLA are still charging a £2.50 fee if you use a credit card. What a money grabbing bunch they are. They take millions of pounds from motorists each year and our roads are the worse maintained in the whole of Europe. They are a national disgrace and yet DVLA continues to bleed us dry for credit cards!! What a rip-off!

How many other government departments are charging as well?

Don't worry. I'm sure they'll remove the fee and increase the base price by 2018.

I don't see that they are doing anything wrong. They have until 2018 to stop. Until then it is legal.

Just use a debit card and not pay the fee.

If I was the DVLA, I'd just add £2.50 to the base price and give a £2.50 discount for payment by any method other than credit card. Or just stop accepting credit cards altogether.

Wow, I know time seems to fly the older you get but how did I miss a whole year.
    Is it 2018 already?

If you are not happy you could move to mainland Europe whilst you still have the chance. I hear New Zealand is nice as well.

I have just paid by Amex and earned £2.75 cashback, so 25p up on the deal!

Last I checked it was still 2017 as of now.

I just pay by debit card, 12 months, that way no extras.

You do realise that for the last 80 years (since road tax was abolished in 1937) there's been no correlation between the Vehicle Excise Duty that you pay to DVLA and the entirely separate pot of money that's spent on maintaining roads?

HMRC would be one obvious answer, but which other government departments would you typically pay directly?

    Well it's not 2018 yet.

Perhaps. But there's a very clear fee free debit card option.

Having driven in numerous European countries I have to disagree. We're right up there with the best for quality of road surface. Congestion and roadworksmight be a different call.

More "what an irritating piddling little fee". A bit like your irritating font. Which you've managed to infect my post with!

    In 2018? I'm predicting none.
