HAWKING RECOGNISES MASS IMMIGRATION IS UNSUSTAINABLE - BUT HAMISH KNOWS BETTER EH;

What matters now, far more than the choices made by these two electorates, is how the elites react. Should we, in turn, reject these votes as outpourings of crude populism that fail to take account of the facts, and attempt to circumvent or circumscribe the choices that they represent? I would argue that this would be a terrible mistake.
With not only jobs but entire industries disappearing, we must help people to retrain for a new world and support them financially while they do so. If communities and economies cannot cope with current levels of migration, we must do more to encourage global development, as that is the only way that the migratory millions will be persuaded to seek their future at home.
it will require the elites, from London to Harvard, from Cambridge to Hollywood, to learn the lessons of the past year. To learn above all a measure of humility.

Not really the same thing. Uk govt doesn't have its tail wagged by local authorities.
The UK/ EU are both experiencing the fallout from political change and there's plenty of noise/ debate in both about what the future will or should look like.
I wasn't making a comment about the relationship between EU members/ EU and local authorities/ central government so your point is moot.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
"UK mortgage lending is (almost) at its highest level since April 2008"The figure is the highest since March 2016, when an impending hike to stamp duty on buy to let homes sent buyers into a frenzy, pushing transaction levels to a record high.
According to that report, there has been a shift away from BTL's towards first-time buyers.0 -

Brexit department in chaos?Britain’s Department for Exiting the European Union has only existed for 14 months but already more than 20 per cent of its staff have left.
According to the Government’s response to a freedom of information request submitted by Bloomberg, as of 18 August, 124 employees had left the department since it was set up, leaving 482.

It sounds very much like another non-story:It said that a large majority of the changes were the “result of normal civil service rotation or the end of defined loan periods”.
If you want the original response in full:DExEU countered that fewer than five of those officials had left the civil service altogether -- which in turn could be an indication that civil servants could also be passing through to rack up experience and gain rapid promotion elsewhere.
“The majority moved on to other government departments because their loan, contract or fast stream rotation ended,” the department said. “Given the large majority of these changes were the result of normal civil service rotation or the end of defined loan periods, these roles were quickly filled.”0 -
Europe's drugs watchdog and troubles ahead because of the move from London:Citing a staff survey, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said anywhere between 19 percent and more than 70 percent of employees plan to leave when the regulator moves due to Britain’s departure from the EU - depending on the new location.0
