Next Directory Payment with Credit Card

Hi,
I've read conflicting advice about paying off a Next directory account with a credit card.
I took out a Virgin purchase only card, which is interest free for 27 months, with the intention of using it to pay my Next balance off as I'm being charged interest on that.
I have read some older posts on here where people have said that a payment to Next counts as a purchase so this is OK, but I called Virgin to ask before I went ahead and they've told me I can't use the card to pay my bill and instead I would have to do a cash transfer to my bank account which I will be charged interest on, albeit less than the interest from Next.
I was hoping to pay it off interest free and wondered if anyone had done the same and can confirm if my transaction will show as a purchase to Next?
The only other option I can think of after reading some threads on here, is to use the credit card to buy Next gift cards and then using them to pay the balance?
Hopefully someone can confirm one way or the other!
Thanks

Ideally a 0% on balance transfers credit card would work for this? The Next store card could be balance transfered?0

It's an account, not a card.0

But its still a store card isnt it? You still have a card for the account (well I do anyway for my Next account)0

You can't balance transfer from Next account. Balance transfers are between credit cards only.
As far as I am aware paying the likes of a Next account is considered a purchase ..... Credit card companies cannot tell whether you are paying the account or purchasing items it's just a payment to Next
Alternatively if your card offered money transfers from your credit card to your bank account you could do that then pay the Next account from you bank account.0 -
Thanks for the feedback.
Yes I was advised that you can't balance transfer and that's why I went for a purchase only card with the intention of clearing my bill with the card as it would show as a purchase.
I'm just not sure why they told me I couldn't do that and would have to do a cash transfer to my bank account and use the money that way to pay it. I'll be charged interest doing it this way so I'd rather avoid that.
I was hoping there would be someone who had done it and could confirm either way.
Thanks again.0 -
If concerned, buy Next gift cards from Next or one of the other many shops that sell them, and use these to pay off your Next account. If you do this at Sainsburys or Morrisons, this will also earn you some Nectar or More points. (You definitely could repay using gift cards this time last year - probably worth ringing to check before you buy them though.)
That will absolutely 100% definitely appear as a purchase.1 -
Thanks, that was my next option as I know you definitely can use the gift cards to pay your bill. I think I'll probably just do that to be safe. The point of the CC was so I could pay it off interest free. I had no idea how much interest I was paying to Next!0

I pay my Next bill via paypal & select my Amex as the Paypal funding source - another option perhaps?Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

A quick google on the Next website shows this in their T&Cs.
