If it's draining your battery, something is wrong with your phone not auto closing apps. There's many) an app for that.
I can't speak for the current version of the app but the one that drained my battery (a couple of years ago) was definitely dodgy, so why should I bother to continue to try an app that has caused me problems previously when I can just pick another one that might be fine (and indeed so far has been)?

Well, if your experience is from a couple of years ago (a lifetime in tech) It's possibly not valid for today. Not only has the app changed but the OS has also gone through significant changes.
Each to their own, or, there wouldn't be so many out there and there are as many as there are opinions...;)
