I use the BBC Weather app on android and I find perfectly okay. It also stores about 10 favourite locations. Sometimes a bit rubbish e.g. it told me it was going to bucket down this morning at 9am, but it actually started at 8:55am. Doh.

I'm a big fan of the Metrogram Widget.

It only works as a widget that you display on your home screen, but it gives a 2-day hourly forecast, shows cloud cover, precipitation, humidity, temperature, wind direction and speed. And it seems fairly accurate.

It's highly customisable. The free version does everything I need.

  • I too use BBC weather app on android. No issues whatever.

Met office (do they not supply the other forecasts?) have a useful web site that has lots of good info on it such as the rain radar. You can sit in the dry and watch it coming towards you even when it is dark!!

Some, but by no means all. They used to supply the BBC but lost the contract, and they now get their forecasts from MeteoGroup (who also supply Sky and Channel 4).

BBC ruined their weather and news apps a long time ago. I have the same BBC app that i had on my Galazy S2. That works and its layout works for me. Not the modern one that want to push a ton of junk at you and autoplay videos.

Does it still want to do that? I refuse to update it and install the old version on each upgrade since.

Often these updates are just changes for the sake of it. Its often nothing better. They remove a feature then add the feature then remove it again.

I don't think any of the apps are any better than the Web Sites they are based on, , got to go, since it it raining here and my device is getting wet. Create a favourites folder with 4 or more websites in them and open them all, and take your Umbrella/Sun Cream/Skis/Boat/Convertible or get a crystal ball

I don't recognise that description of the BBC news app....No auto play videos on my up to date version. Layout is clean and efficient.
As for Weather apps, theirs is as good as any of the others.

  • Whichever weather app you choose, try Rain Alarm as well. It's a simple, accurate and extremely useful rain radar. I use it far more than any forecast app.

    BBC Weather app.

It takes a little while to update when you first open it, but it's fine after that.

Until they make a change that's not fully tested that drains your battery in a couple of hours (it's happened to me and was a significant factor in my decision to uninstall and switch to an alternative).
