Thank you ionafan and Honey Bear  I am so glad I didn't throw caution to the wind and use the stuff! I'll make a note in my bullet journal to take it to the pharmacy the next time I pick up my prescription, and I need sodium carbonate. I have some bicarbonate of soda - but I can't think that's the same stuff. I bought it to wipe out the new fridge with. Would that work? There's an item on Mr G00gle which implies it will. (Beginning to wish I had taken O-level Chemistry now!!!! I chose Physics instead - will that ever come in handy, do you think?)

And also thank you Honey Bear for the word 'offhand'. That's exactly the word I was looking for and couldn't think of.

Towels are in WM; yesterday's laundry has been put away :T ( I don't iron, I wash carefully :o ); pots are washed and draining while I cool down a little. It's overcast, but I think that humid air is here :( so I'm flying in my nightie, then I'll have a shower and get dressed to take a friend out for lunch. Good thing we're not American flylady - I believe you have to have your shoes on and laced up to fly there. I only wear shoes outside - and then not always :D

Healing prayers being said for Mr ionafan

    Rx

ETA Thank you greent I'm not going to risk it!

Bicarbonate of soda is probably a similar but different substance, but it works to de-stink anything, in the same way as soda crystals do. It's usually food grade stuff, so it's considerably more expensive than soda crystals. On the back of the dp soda crystal's bag (dp being the manufacturer of the stuff most widely available here) it says how to mix up a strong, medium or weak solution - which would be perfect for wiping out the fridge.

I used to buy kilos of bicarbonate of soda from the Chinese supermarket round the corner, but they've moved so I don't any more. Besides which, I found out at roughly the same time that while it looks most dramatic if you put bicarb down the plug hole and then pour in vinegar, it doesn't shift much gunge after all, and we've got very, very slow drains in the shower and shower room sink the lodgers use. If anything gunges them up, like hair and soap ends which happens reglarly, they block instantly and I need something that will deal with that pdq. Soda crystals do the trick nicely.

OH and I have just cleared the junk in the back alley at the hermit-like unsociable neighbour's request so the scaffolders can get through next week. Oh yay! I know he wants to sell and move, so hopefully this will mean the cumulative effect of neglect over the past 22 years will finally be addresseed and he'll be OFF! I've got a carload's worth to take to the dump, to the dump, to the dump dump dump tomorrow and then another load straight after. It's taken me years to persuade OH that stuff has to go and it's happening! Hurrah! But not much on the listy has happened because we were busy doing that.
    Better is good enough.

Phew! It's so muggy and oppressive here today - it's like walking around in a permanent after-effect of a hot flush!

Bathroom done. Teens do their own bathrooms - although I did nip in and throw some stuff down their sink drains in the end. Still need to do downstairs loo but need to cool down! :D Also vacuumed & polished my room and changed my bedding - figure that should get me a head start on another day :)

Mudders.. chaos here as always.. just got back from hollibobs yesterday so spent today washing.. 5 loads so far.. but I've run out of pegs.. I think they have been eaten. Is it really THAT long since you got Stripes?? Wow.. that has passed super quick!!

soda crystals only seem to block anything I use them on.. I have some superb drain cleaner.. though boiling water does a decent job on ktchen sinks that are usually just full of grease.

Twinkle upchucked her breakfast .. again ..
I'm getting a new grandbeast about June time
My cats have spread fleas about my house while I've been away.. so need something to deal with those.
DD2 has been doing some cleaning.. and I need to get her to the GP to sort her issues.. she has requested an appointment with the MH team and not followed it up so I will get on that too.

Best feed the beasties... and shuffle laundry
