The scones have risen. Well, most of them
The tarts are done, eclairs defrosted and posh sandwiches made. Loo cleaned and floors swept through. Just need to collect DD and get the teapot and milk jug out
I've even put two extra chairs out, although I'm thinking grandpa's may sneak in the LR to watch the rugby :rotfl: I may join them!
Right, off we go!Bossymoo

Katiecat I've just seen your post; (((HUGS))) hun - I don't have adequate words.
Welcome home Valli - I'm almost miffed that I missed the troll, I have a new sword I want to try out! :rotfl:
Cookie has settled in for her holiday; she slept with us last night - I don't have the heart to make her stay on her beanbag, as she sleeps with her Mum at home. We had a lovely walk in the park this morning, and she was very well-behaved, and she ate her brekkie all up.... all in all, an easy guest to look after. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hi all! Managed to get up early (ish) and have been to N'wide, market, Wilk0s and Mr T so now have some food in the fridge!! Off to see Dad in a bit (more tomatoes, courgettes, beans and kale, no doubt
)
Quillion - welcome backxx
Valli - glad you had a good time xx
bossymoo - hope Miss Moo has a great day and you get some time to relax!!Honey_Bear wrote: »Welcome back Frodders! Yes, I'm keeping an eye on your poppies. The Wave is in Plymouth, on the north side of the Naval War Memorial. Thus far on their national tour this is the only place where the poppies and the Commonwealth War Grave Commission are in partnership so I'm actually volunteering for the CWGC, not the poppies themselves, which is the actual attraction. I get to look at them and keep my bit of them safe for three hours a week until 19th November when they move on. (Remembrance Day will be very special this year.) We went up there last night as it's lit overnight and there was quite a crowd at 11.30 pm which was lovely, and it was confirmed yesterday that a bugler will sound The Last Post at sunset on 1 September. I think they want to make that a weekly event, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.
How wonderful! Our Naval War Memorial is almost identical to yours but I don't know if The Wave is coming to us too. I love looking at my poppy and remembering x"There's only one way of life and that's your own" - Levellers

I never got further than Wednesday but that's still 3 lists better than the last however many years. I'll try again next week.
Hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend x0 -
Any recommendations for a rechargeable hand held vacuum type thingy?!!!:p Fed up with lugging big one up and down stairs and remember some of you mentioning 'making life easier'!! Ta x"There's only one way of life and that's your own" - Levellers

Everyone has gone home, kids watching a film in the other room, rugby on, feet up, can of fizzy
Conservatory emptied of cake etc (which she liked :T) and just floor to sweep.
Mini moo is very happy with her kiddiz00m camera from granny and ballet dress from me, DS is wildly jealous, lol, wants his own camera and can't keep his hands off the netting skirt :rotfl:
When DS was 7, MIL gave me a notebook, with the inscription "give me a child until he is 7 and I'll show you the man" (poss not accurate!) and lots of notes on funny things DS has said over the years, in date order. Well. I've now got another one of DDs little sayings, so I'm going to have a read of that
Feeling rather contentBossymoo

It's a Jesuit quote, Bossy. I'm not religious, but if you google it you'll find quite a lot.
Boning up on the facts Frodders I've learned quite a lot about the war memorials at Chatham, Portsmouth and here as they are the same, and designed to be so, but their settings make them unique. I find myself getting more emotional about the sacrifices of those men and their families the more I read. Our WW1 youngest was 14, the oldest 67, and obviously that's just of the 7,251 Naval losses. (The base of ours was extended for WWII losses.)I never got further than Wednesday but that's still 3 lists better than the last however many years. I'll try again next week.
Hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend x
It's two days further than I got, Mudbath!
I now have four and a half jars of a new recipe of pear and ginger chutney and it's fabulous. More vinegar needed urgently to make the rest of the pears into something lovely, so goodness knows how I'm going to find time to do that before the rest of the pears go over.Better is good enough.0 -
Welcome back Froddington hope you had a good time. Have you come to an arrangement work-wise yet? Sorry can't advise on a rechargeable vacuum other than to say both my mum and MIL have one of the cheaper ones and they are happy; I don't know what make but they don't have the same one - helpful NOT.
Started the day with a nice motorbike ride with Mr N and friend to a pretty Essex village with a nice tea shop.
Rest of the day was gardening. In between freezer tetris to try and fit more in. A neighbour just held over a large bag of apples and optimistically asked whether we would like them - we said only if we can give you a bag of ours!!! Next nearly ready is the Asian pears; I just ate a windfall and it was yummy. Oddly, my breakfast the last few days has been sliced plums with Wensleydale. I don't know where I came up with that idea - I don't like sweet & sour, won't even have apple sauce with pork - but this is lovely. Asian pears and.......actually I make a lovely starter with pears, walnuts, blue cheese and rocket so maybe.....
Managed to do a run just now. I'm still trying to persevere with the C25K and am up to week 7 although admittedly I walked for about 4 mins in the middle today, owing to excessively high nettles and thistles on the footpath plus such long grass you couldn't see the ruts (it's on the edge of a barley field so hoping when they harvest they will squash some of it).
Pleased to get a phone call from our dance instructor, they have a monthly 'social' which to date Mr N has not felt the urge to come to.....however he relented and we've been on the waiting list for 3 Sept which is some sort of anniversary. So more dance practice and lots of slim-making exercise needed.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0 -
Sorry Frodders, I forgot to say, I've got a Dyson cordless which I got through their Ebay outlet for reconditioned ones. It was obviously brand new and had never been used, and it's marvellous. I got rid of the big heavy one after it gave up the ghost and it was such a relief to see it go! Linky, but I have to say I'm really shocked by the prices - I paid £179 and I thought that was lot.
Run time is about 20 minutes, 10 minutes on powerboost which I have to use because of Kelpie's and Devil Cat's fur. 10 minutes vacuumming is quite enough, thank you!Better is good enough.0
