Best network for basic PAYG

Yet another query!

It is all so confusing:o

I just want a basic PAYG that can be topped up as and when necessary - usual spend about £20 per annum.

On checking various providers, they all seem to offer monthly bundles etc for PAYG now, which to me seems more like a contract.

Just want cheapest provider for the odd call and occasional text message, very light user on the mobile phone front.

Thank you.

    Try Delight, uses EE network

Or if you want a more familiar name Asda also EE

You can get bundles but sounds that like me you just want to bung a few quid on when you need to

You do need to make a chargeable call, like a text, every six month or so, check the T & Cs

There is also O2 on their light tariff, you do have to bung a tenner on to start though 5p per everything

Exactly, I just want to put £5 or £10 on now and again. At the moment we are getting charged about 35p/40p minute so would like something cheaper.

Many thanks for your advice, will have a look at the ones you mention.

I don't know to be honest.

My phone is a 12 year old Nokia 1100 and my OH has a Nokia C3 - so both pretty old and basic, but do what is required - i.e. calls and texts.

    Would they work on 3g?

Doesn't delight expire credit 90days after topping up. Kind of a big issue for a low user.

We're with GiffGaff and they use the O2 network. They offer free GiffGaff to GiffGaff calls too so if you're both signed up you'll make a saving there too.

We've had no problems and been with them a few years now.

I believe (and I stand to be corrected) both phones only work on the 2G band and I believe you can use the 02 network via a Giff Gaff sim. A Three sim might work.

The 2 phones both use the GSM 900 / 1800 bands.

The Three network requires a 3G phone, they specifically state a 2G only phone is not compatible with their network.

The cheapest PAYG is 1p Mobile ( https://www.1pmobile.com/) which is 1p/min, etc. It requires a top up every 120 days. The second cheapest is Three at 3p/min, 2p per text, but needs a 3G phone. A top up on Three doesn't expire.
