Help asap I lied about sick leave

Dare I suggest to the regulars of this parish - playing the role of a veritable portentous Rick again and again isn't the greatest way to help first-time posters.
Whilst I agree with the sentiment, people often need a big cold hard dose of reality when they post on here. What does the OP want to hear? That we agree that you're allowed to lie before a job offer and that the prospective employer will honour the offer even if the deception is uncovered? That doesn't help anyone. People have simply given the reality of the situation.0 -
My advice to the OP? Turn down this job, by explaining to the potential employer that you were not entirely honest about your health problems but that you would certainly like to work with them in the future. Then sort out your current employer, and then start applying for jobs againxxx0

A person acting like an arrogant twerp doesn't advance their sense of right and wrong, it undermines it. A 'cold hard dose of reality' is that nobody is perfect, and the original poster is not especially prone to vice (or sin, if you would put things that way).0 -

You're right. And the only thing worse than the aforementioned arrogant twerp is the sanctimonious virtue-signaller. Funnily enough, they both seem to advance their sense of right at the expense of others.0 -
This is an employment board. People have given lots of good guidance and advice appropriate to that. It's fair to pass comment on the rights and wrongs of the OP's daft actions.
If the OP felt they needed a morale boost/forum hug/chorus of 'ah poor you, nobody's perfect' they'd have gone elsewhere.0 -
The company I work for just give the dates they employed you, nothing else when they do references. If your company does the same then this issue of sick leave would not come up.0

Can I just point out that yes I was angry at myself not anyone else. I know i got myself into a mess but it was a face to face question and I completely froze up and lied. That's it. I wasn't trying to lie my way to a job or anything like that. I am just struggling with an illness that i find hard to tell people about especially people I don't know0

There's nothing morally wrong with lying about this, past health issues are not the employers business so they aren't entitled to a truthful answer anymore than they are if they ask about your sex life.
For someone to suggest the op is causing more stigma for mental health sufferers is just absurd, the company should not be asking questions so they can discriminate against mental health sufferers!0 -
Tbh. If a potential employee admitted she lied to me I'd withdraw my job offer.
My only thought is just give them the reference, and see what they come back with. If they catch you, you lose the job. If you tell them, you lose the job - if you quit you lose the job.
The only win/win situation here is if they just give a standard reference and don't mention it....it's unlikley that it won't come up as usually they want a % of attendance but at this stage I'd just say what have you got to lose....and sometimes things don't work out as bad as you think.People don't know what they want until you show them.0
