    Hi BBM :D

There is a thread about cleaning the drawer in the washing machine . Do have a look and see if that helps you , and report back :) I'll merge your thread with that one later. I really hope it works for you :j

Also - vinegar used as softener for those discussing it :)

    Thanks

I don't use powder any more because of what it does to the drawer, and I have never been fond of fabric conditioner although I do use Bold sometimes. I clean out the drawer regularly and wipe the spray holes with bleach and do a regular 90 wash with nothing, but bleach in to clean through. Also take the draer out and give it a good clean and if I have used powder clear out the accumulated gubbins at the bottom of the drawer.

Dishwashers and washing machines are IMO very badly designed for needing cleaning out and you would think in this day and age they would be better designed.
  • I had a problem with my bosch washing machine a few months back and rang bosch the offered me their insurance cover which meant I wouldnt have to pay for an engineer or parts and if they couldnt fix the machine the would replace it so I took that out and they came out the next day:j:j:j

    Hope you get it sorted

  • Thanks everyone, very helpful. I've pulled out the draw & cleaned it all thoroughly with a toothbrush etc. It's now on a hot wash (empty, just for cleaning it) with soda crystals & white vinegar in the fabric softener bit. I will ditch the conditioner & switch to white vinegar in future as I'm sure that's whats caused the problem.

    Thanks again
  • Hi, not sure if this is the correct home, but was wondering if there is a way of cleaning out the dispenser drawer of the machine. Was putting in a load of washing last night and noticed that it was black:eek:, but was like a dry powder. No idea where it has come from, but I do try to do an empty cycle fairly regularly.

Ideally I would like to use a lesser but effective cleaning agent, eg vinegar, but not sure what is the best thing.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Easiest if you can remove the draw for cleaning - give it a scrub with soapy water to start and then leave to soak in water with vinegar in. If that doesn't remove all stains then try water with a little bleach in to soak the drawer.
If you can't get the drawer out for cleaning then soaking can be done with a cloth drenched in the soaking liquid and then draped all over the surfaces.
  • Sorry I have jsut realised how I had written this and have made myself sound a mucky cow! The drawer is taken out & cleaned regularly, it is the surround unit it fits in that is disgusting, although, again that is cleaned regularly. I just don't understand how what in theory should be clean (in that al that is going throug there is water etc) can get so disgustingly dirty

Mine gets the same, I think it just the soap, its not really dirty.

You can get a solution from the supermarket. Can't remember the name of it but its in the cleaning isle, look near the clothes stain remover.

I've started using the wash tablets, to avoid using the drawer.

There's an old thread on this subject, on this site, HERE
The black stuff in the drawer is mould, not bacteria.

The black stuff is a mix of mould and bacteria - known as biofilms.
