Good news is that its a fab time of year for reduced watering cans
it's hard when unexpected costs come up but it gets easier as finances improve and as being careful becomes normal. I try and make sensible choices 90% of the time

Thanks Lauren. I'm now in bed with a cuppa. Tomorrow is a new day and best foot forward, got a lovely day in the city planned with the small ones, hopefully I'll find some watering cans in the £ shop!0

I've just finished watching Orange is the New Black - it's very good! Felt a bit lost when it had finished.0

Ahhh just lost my post, feel better today, just lost my mojo a big yesterday and a bit lonely with OH away for so long when I'm used to him being here all the time.
Should be going to the city today, weathers not great though. Going to try and change those scratch cards and maybe use some of the coins in my purse for a treat or two for the small ones from the £ shop. I have my costalot card for coffee and I found a free coffee and a cake voucher for john Lewis in my purse, I sign up for all the free things
My problem is I love buying things for the small peeps and for myself obviouslyand I love coming home with bags of stuff and going through them, but obviously not the debt it racks up and it is precisely why I am in debt! (Well that and online shopping!:o). So need to get out of that mindet!

Its really hard to be on your own for long runs with the little ones like that, I used to think I'd have had more support if we split up as I would then at least have got some time off. Mine worked away a lot when ours were younger. They are 13 and 14 now which is:eek: at how fast the time has gone.
I used to over compensate by buying them things, you just end up with a houseful of stuff that you spend the next ten years trying to declutter. Along the way I accidentally taught them to expect some kind of treat every time we went out, and that was just stupid by me. Its hard to resist and I didn't really want or need to. When the crisis hit and the money went it was really hard to break those habits and I still feel guilty about the things they don't have - things I taught them to expect.
Mine don't remember the expensive stuff typically, they remember the jumping in muddy puddles, trips to the park, baking and that sort of thing. Home made play dough was excellent, ask HI - she did some the other day I think. My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Hey redo thanks for posting and for understanding! You are completely right. My house is full of clutter from bits and pieces bought and happy meal toys:o I treat for lunch quite often too as my children can be real foodies (despite the happy meals!) and love pizza express or Jamie Oliver's, I guess I indulge because I like these things too. Going to have to try and overcome the need and want to do this!0

Can we swap children please? My DS1 likes food up to a point, but DS2 doesn't eat. Going out for a meal is a chore not a pleasure and he always ends up upset. Always been like that. I'm a bit of a foodie so its really difficult, but I was equally bad as a child so there is hope.
If its something that matters to you then can you plan for it, MrT and double up vouchers? Groupon/Wowcher type offers? My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Lol redo, we first took DS out when he was 9 days old! We've just always done it. We use groupon, vouchers and we have a tastecard which is always helpful. Have noticed if you just on the restaurants website they often have offers. When next month rolls around I will set budgets for everything, it's just this month that is beyond tight due to camping holiday and overspending there  will see what I can fathom for lunch today. Small ones are just eating breakfast then off to the city we go, fingers crossed it doesn't rain!0
