Bill for Pub Meal

Hi,

Recently visited a pub for a meal, got to the end of the night and asked for the bill. We paid accordingly and to our knowledge all was fine. 4 days later we receive a call from said pub (had my number from the booking reservation we made) telling us that there is another bill we owe them for some drinks that were missed off the bill we paid on the night. Although we do not want to leave the pub out of pocket, we do feel slightly hard done by and would like to ask where we stand as consumers. Obviously we owe them, but it seems very cheeky of them to ring posing the problem several days after. We had no clue and just paid our bill that was given to us at the end of the night. They have made the error, are they not responsible for it?

Thank you.

You admit you owe them so yes you need to pay.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Why do you feel 'slightly hard done by'?

If the drinks bill is yours, pay it.
As you say, you don't want to leave the pub out of pocket.

It sounds like you did know that you'd been under-charged but hoped to get away with it.
I don't see why you think it's cheeky of them to ring to ask you to pay what you owe them.

I went out for a meal as well, got the bill and paid accordingly.

A couple of days later after checking my receipt it turns out that I had paid for some other tables drinks as well as my own.

Obviously they owe me, but it seems very cheeky of me to ring and pose the problem several days after. I don't want the pub to leave me out of pocket, but they feel hard done by so I would like to know where they stand as a business.

I had no clue, the error was mine as I didn't check the receipt, am I not responsible for it?

See it works both ways, if they owed you money you would be on the phone to them every day to get it back.

I despair sometimes, if someone can get something for nothing it doesn't matter the cost to someone else.

Pay up - but have a chat with the pub manager and give them opportunities to reward you for your decent behaviour - like discounting your next meal ;-)

I would say to be fair if I phoned up a few days later to say I was overcharged I'd expect to be laughed at or outright denied saying I should of noticed at the time

Genuine mistakes happen. The pub is within its rights to ask for the outstanding amount, but assuming it's a few quid only then it does seem a bit petty to go to such lengths.

I might be wrong but I didn't think marcarm was actually saying he'd been over-charged, just 'putting the boot on the other foot' based on what the Op wrote, so to speak.

I don't really know how these things work, but it could be that the person who omitted to bill you will end up having to pay themselves.
I'd just pay it if it was right.
