Possibly has nothing to do with the staff's inability to add up. It's common to have a drink at the bar before being seated. If the bar tab isn't transferred to the restaurant side then the customer may well have left by the time it is realised that the bar tab hasn't been settled. The customer could have pointed out that their bill was incorrect when they were given it - I always check mine before handing over my card - or perhaps they thought they could keep quiet and get away with a couple of free drinks.

Okay, I got it wrong. It was the lack of a proper system in place. I think all customers should run a time and motions check on any establishment they visit to ensure no mistakes are likely to take place thus ensuring they won't be charged at a later date, for apparently up to six years later. Get real.

And Pollycat, how many years ago did you not leave the service charge because I visited the same taverna and the owner asked me if I knew you so he could claim the amount? Was it longer than six years ago?

BTW just received a receipt that had got lost in the post from a restaurant for a couple of drinks we hadn't paid for. The thing is it's dated five years and three hundred and sixty days ago. Do you think I should pay it?
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

I know where I'd like to place it though.

That makes no sense, so just because the OP didn't check the bill and assumed it was correct then that means they don't owe the money?

    .

I never said they don't owe the money, Its likely they do and they have admitted they do.

however if it was me, and I believed I had settled the bill I would not be paying up more money easily

If you believe you owe the money, yes.

    Why wouldn't you?

That post you quoted contains 3 silly 'made-up' scenarios.

I would certainly pay it by cheque, but put a 2nd class stamp on it and hope it got lost in the post.

Have a great day Saint Neil.
